Are they worth owning? Anymore all i ever shoot is my 556 short barreled AR15 and just wondering if i should buy a short AR10 or FAL. I know its not the most effective barrel length but i kind of want one.
Your opinion?

Are you going to use a suppressor? I've shot a 14.5" .308 AR-10 and the concussion is absolutely brutal, even with good ear protection. But a suppressor could make all the difference.
Beyond that, don't see much point, but do what you wanna do.
Honestly I don't get the idea of going with a .308 SBR. But if it tickles your tender bits then go for it. I don't have to understand.
Probably should have put this Q in "Beyond 5.56" though.

No suppresor in the near future. I know the concusion is real but i want something with a little more knockdown power.

I figured it wasnt technical enough for the tech forum.

I've toyed with the idea of a 12.5" pistol in .30-06 to exploit AP Ball M2's unique legal status... but I don't really expect to need to bust plates anytime soon, nor feel up for a weapon as punishing on its user as its target unless it's a truly dire emergency.
Just something for your consideration.

Why not a small frame cartridge suited to a short barrel, like .350 Legend or .458 SOCOM? Do you want more range?
6.8 SPC is ideal at 12.5".

Personally, I don't even think a 16".308 is worth owning. The only reason I would own a .308 would be to carry a lot of energy down to long range, and I'm going to want as much velocity possible out of an already velocity challenged projectile. I would want at least a 20" barrel with .308. The rifle is already going to be bigger and heavier than a 5.56/short action type gun. Might as well play to it's strengths instead of it's weaknesses.

This is very true, and a short .308 (13.5-16") on paper is monumentally retarded.... I have a buddy who runs a 13.5" with great enjoyment. Shoots 155 TMKs I believe, and shoot that goofy shit to 1000 plus yards.
A short 308 can work, but it’s not a very efficient solution. I’d run a 6.8 SPC instead to eliminate some weight and burn less powder.
Well they do make a 13" barrel for the SCAR and I believe they used 135 grain ammo but I would hate to shoot much without a suppressor.

That is our buddy’s gun Mark spoke of, he loves the 155TMK’S. I shot the SOB and it’s shuffled my deck good. I did more of a close range rapid fire deal but it jumped and rocked my world.

Unless it was something really interesting in itself like a G3k or a SCAR-H CB (c??) I would rather just get a short AK. They are all over the place and they don't scramble your DNA with every blast.

Scramble your DNA, thats funny. 7.62x39 is a good option.

Awesome, going to put Pfizer and Moderna stickers on my shorter .308s now.
I know I posted it above, but the 14.5" .308 AR I shot was a head-clearing experience. It did have a muzzle brake FWIW. Way louder, for the trigger-puller, than the 50 BMG rifles I've shot (also with brakes, of course), or just about anything else. Heavy magnum revolvers might compare. I've been around braked 16" AR-15s for thousands upon thousands of shots, both as a shooter and an RO, and they are in a different, lower league blast-wise.
