View Full Version : Can I or should I shoot .223 out of my LE6920?
Is it ok to do this? I just got my first AR for xmas and got a Colt LE 6920. I don't know what ammo to buy, the rifle says to use 5.56X45 ammo, but someone told me i could also shoot .223? if this is true, great, can you give me some suggestions to try out that are clean and reliable? can you also give me a couple suggestions of ammo in 5.56 that is clean and reliable? thank you.

The Colt being chambered in 5.56mm NATO will handle .223 Rem or 5.56mm NATO with no problems.

thank you, thats what i thought, i just needed to make sure.
do you have any suggestions for either that are clean and reliable? i don't care about price really, just want clean ammo and reliable feeding.
The 6920 shoots .556 or .223. I like Winchester White Box, or Hornady TAP Practice.

I'd recommend American Eagle 55gr FMJ (AE223), Federal XM193 (brown box), PMC (some of it is pretty weak), Prvi 55gr FMJ (M193) and pretty much anything from Black Hills.

thank you sir, one last question. are all those suggestions brass cased ammo?
They are all brass cased.
Federal AE223 is one of my favorite blasting rounds, and it shoots very well for me.
hey thanks fellas, you've been very helpful.
any chance you have a link handy to the AE 223 to purchase online?
Hell, I shoot laquered steel cased Barnaul and Brown Bear out of mine....no worries.
:D
To be brutally honest, these days, I'd get whatever I can. As long as the ammo is from a reputable manufacturer/dealer, you should be good.
Fed AE223 has gotten scare and more costly over the last year or two. Prvi seems to be consistently available which is a plus. Like Templar said, some of the steel cased foreign stuff is decent blasting ammo.
Sadly, this summer I shot up most of the Wolf 62 grain ammo I had stockpiled at less than $100 a while back... Had maybe two/three ammo issues in about 5k rounds, one hard primer while Pat Rogers was watching me closely.. sigh...
