I would concur with Wendy's being the most expensive, at least in my local area.

"Menu prices are up significantly, 12.9%, at fan favorites like Wendy's (WEN), Chick-fil-A, Taco Bell, Burger King and McDonald's (MCD).

The most expensive of the five fast food joints? Wendy's. Over the past year the cost to dine at the Dublin, Ohio-based chain increased by 35%, making it the largest bump across the Big Five this year.

That's according to new data from Pricelisto.com, which gathered the data from in-store visits, phone interviews and uploaded information from business owners nationally.

This year, Wendy's overtook Burger King as the most expensive fast-food chain with an average item price of $6.63. In 2021, Burger King cost an average of $5.03."

Fast food prices are stupid.
I used to bemoan cooking for 1 and having to recycle the left overs. At $15.00 for a fast food meal, I will be cooking a lot of sausage and pepper sandwiches.

I don't get fast food much anymore.
It wasn't worth it a couple years ago and certainly isn't worth it now.

A place by the shop has great burgers, the 1/2 lb double is up to $10 now, used to be $6.50
I still stop in once a week to grab a burger on the way home.

The chicken place next to it went from $25 for a whole bird plus fixins to $50.

Don't go there anymore, I'm not paying $50 for grilled chicken.

My boy had a $25 gift card and wanted Dominoe's.
$31 for a med pepperoni pizza, good grief.

I rarely eat fast food anymore except for sub sandwiches, with that said I went to Wendy's for lunch on Thursday and was shocked at how cheap the meal was.

I received a regular/single hamburger, 4 piece chicken nugget, small fries and small beverage for $4.00.

They have a couple versions of this deal if you don't like regular hamburgers.

Other menu items were very expensive as others have said.

I can get more, better food at the local bars and restaurants for cheaper. The only reason for fast food is if I forget my lunch and am too busy to venture out to where they restaurants are.

I cant believe people still buy fast food with any regularity.

This really applies to any major chain. The food quality is abysmal.

Unfortunately, I've seen a 25 to 35% increase at my local burger joints as well. This is not just Alaska. I paid more for burgers in Montana and Maryland on my last two trips outside in the last 6 months than I do in AK. I used to be able to get a burger, fries, and a beer pretty much anywhere for $15 and it's now easily $20 everywhere.

Originally being from NE Ohio (Youngstown area), I can vouch that the local bars which serve food are usually awesome. Much better than going to a big chain fast-food place.

While haven't gone to a Wendy's in a couple of years, no way they can be more expensive than friggin' Arby's.

I haven’t been to a Burger King in years. To me, they’ve been pretty closely tied to the bottom of the barrel with McDonalds and Taco Bell for a long time. On the rare occasion I get a burger, it’s Freddy’s or Wendy’s will do. Chick-fil-A has always been decent with great service and order accuracy until the past year or so.

Haven't been to Arby's in probably 20 years or so, but in my town 5 Guys is pretty pricey. Probably more than Wendy's.

I got a starbucks grande drip black coffee and a grilled cheese sandwich this morning. Cost $10.40. Someone gave me a $10 Starbucks card for Christmas so I was able to use that up. Otherwise I never go to Starbucks, everything is ridiculously expensive. For lunch I got a Taco Time Fiesta Platter and a drink, it was $14 and change. Completely ridiculous.

Not only is eating out retarded expensive, overall, it's gross.

I should have made a dinner brag pic, but we all know what a good plate looks like.

Just had homemade oven roasted chicken, breaded, plain white rice, and green beans; and it's better than anything I could get going out without spending $30-$40 at a decent restaurant, for 1 person. Even with the ridiculous grocery prices, Total into my meal was like $5, and that's only because I like the high dollar spices. If I just used salt/pepper/butter, it's closer to $3.

If I go around the corner and get a typical combo meal at the drive thru, $15-$17; no thanks.

You're exactly right. Last week I found a nice New York strip steak for sale at the grocery store, it was about half off because it was getting ready to expire, but it was still completely good. I cooked that up in the cast iron pan to a nice medium rare with a good sear on both sides, had baked potatoes with butter and sour cream, steamed broccoli and sautéed onions. It was a great meal like something you'd get at a nice steakhouse. The only reason I ate out today is there was a freak wind storm early this morning and the power went out, so I went down and spent a few hours in town.

It has always been true that you can eat well for much less money by cooking at home. Its unfortunate that so many people just turned to meal delivery services instead of cooking when Covid shut down dining out.

We don’t eat out a lot, but sometimes we do out of convenience, especially if both of us had long days at work and I don’t feel like spending an hour in the kitchen. We never did delivery because of my semi-rural area and I don’t want random people coming up my driveway. But we did try to patronize some of the local restaurants (about 8 different ones) by getting takeout during COVID. One had terrible food and portions were half of the “normal” size. It closed within a month, clearly because of the reduced alcohol sales that generated their revenue. All but one other made it and they all maintained good food and service. One day this fall I ran to get gas and a Diet Coke while working outside and I bought the McDonalds meal for the town Marshall in behind me in the drive thru. His BigMac meal was $11! I don’t mind doing it for them but wow!

We've been living off Burger King since 2019, I can definitely see the +25% increase in price, but I can still feed a minivan load of kids, my own single digit mental age desires, and my wife with plausibly healthy stuff for round $16 with a few frills (ice cream or slushes)... just requires zero shame when it comes to using the value menu.

I'm still confused why people spend $12 a head on fast food for something that isn't actually impressive or multiple days worth of calories

I would pay that for Chic Fil A or one of the few remaining quality fast food places. Eating at home costs as much or more and usually takes a lot more time. Eating out, forget it. It's doubled in the last 5 years.

Comes down to this, BidenCo jacked fuel prices into the stratosphere to appease the greenies. So if it comes to your town on a truck, you will pay a price difference. Prices on most things have almost doubled in the last 5 years, except for incomes of course.

I got out of the woods late one day hunting. I was tired and hungry. For some reason, I stopped by McDuuhhz.... not much of a choice out here in Hoser Heaven. I didn't feel like cooking up something when I got home, so I got two of the little double cheeseburgers and a medium fry. It was just a few pennies shy of $10 for that. I've been pretty much done with the fast food stuff. I will say except for one local thing. If you're ever around the Bristol Kingsport Va/Tn area, do yourself a favor and find a Pal's. They are the best dang burger and fries for any sort of drive through I've been through.

Not to mention $15/hr+ to flip burgers, the “living wage” the socialists are always screaming about. Flipping burgers used to be a high schooler’s job but now it has turned into a career since we have outsourced our manufacturing and became a service economy. Well, someone has to pay for the additional labor cost and increase in fuel prices.

Sam
12-31-22, 16:43
To get around the price, use the promo coupons. Yes I eat at fast food, at times you have no choice. Road trip, working, late night (drive through only), while you would like a nice relaxing sit down and order dinner, you just don't have the luxury. There are times that you go to a $200 meal for two dinner and there are times you get a number 1 with a large drink to go.

Since covid, fast food places are getting worse, except Chickfilet. Chickfilet got that formula down, they have their customers lined up around the parking lot and still manage to get food delivered in less than 10 minutes. I've ran into fast food joints that had to close very early or not open at all due to the lack of workers, some only have the drive through open, some are just plain long.

They are more expensive, as I wrote in the first paragraph, use their coupons. Just yesterday I wanted just a quarter pounder and large fries, it was over $9 because I didn't have any coupon.

Realistically not a lot, but it's a game of supplementing that through other means (basically get a microwaveable frozen package of peas, butter, then stack on a 8pk of chicken nuggets with a $0.50 ice cream cone, and kids will actually suffer through chicken intake to make stuff happen.

As far as actually useful rounded stuff, unsure, it's basically a garbage intake process, but calories per dollar is really high, and at least the protein/starch intake is sorted to where a cheap prepackaged (mediocre discount pile) salad rounds out the rest of the day kinda adequately

Back when McDonalds had $1 side salads, I actually ate pretty well - get the $1 chicken sandwich, cut up the breaded chicken into that with a vinaigrette, it was legitimately good.

Good enough that anymore I strongly feel that letting EBT critters go to fast food restaurants and order from an 'EBT Approved' menu of healthy stuff and kids meals would probably be a net cost savings, and actually indirectly fix some food desert-ish areas where it's basically impossible within walking distance to get healthy food... but somehow that would get ruined

Or teach the kids how to actually see what is around the house and COOK it, at home...

I can clearly remember being in my early 20's and going to visit my dad for a few weeks one time. I was hanging out at the old mans house (doing pretty much nothing) when my 15 yr old half sister got home from school. After she did all of her 'chores' (feeding the pigs, goats, cows, bull, and whatever else they had at the time) she came inside and called either dad or his wife on the phone, told them what they had and asked what they wanted for dinner. An hour or so later when they started arriving back home she had dinner WELL underway and darn near ready.

No damn way I could have pulled off that meal OR all of those chores (having not grown up in that family environment and not having been taught / educated). If they had asked me to do that job they would have ended up with some grilled cheese sandwiches or something that required even fewer cooking abilities. Sister pulled off a real deal, home cooked meal that did not come from a prepackaged box of garbage or require a microwave oven.

Dad never once said anything 'bad' about the mom that raised me but... He didn't have to for me to be able to see the differences in upbringing.

I partied a little too hardy on New years day and woke up Monday feeling pretty terrible. Didn't feel like doing a sit-down breakfast; too peoply.

Against my better judgment, we went to BK around the corner. (They weren't bad two years ago, two for $10 Whopper combos)

$38 for a Whopper combo, kids combo and two shakes! The shakes wire tiny (BK use to have gigantic shakes back in the day), the food was cold, the shakes were melted, and we waited 20 minutes at the drive-thru window. Never again. If I didn't feel like a complete turd, I'd have drove back and got a refund; it was that bad.

It's been 2 years since I went to the local McDs for anything. When FF is no longer a guilty pleasure, there's no point.

Used to be it was bad for you, but man it tasted good. And them fries, they're wonderful.

Now it's still really bad for you, but it also tastes terrible. And them fries, they taste like crap and usually get them kinda cold.

If I wanted to punish my kids, I'd feed them that crap until they straightened up.

Decades ago I'd see kids having birthday parties in sushi restaurants and I didn't get it. When I was a kid, we were doing pizza and a lot of my friends just wanted McDonalds for their birthday. Now I kind of get it.

No doubt. They're still in the age range (preK and younger) that the five food groups are the five shapes of chicken nuggets, although they can almost cook an egg or make themselves a quesadilla.

Tragic answer is that the 5 year old is already better prepared than some of the teenagers I've mentored, who are still basically on the path of having the home economics and self-care skills of mentally handicapped people, and will basically be forever out the greater cost of prepared food until they buckle down and suffer through a couple more 10 minute youtube videos on how to cook, which was still too much of an imposition.

Kind of an odd observation, but I've been making a lot of my own pizza's lately.

We rarely eat out as a family; when we do, it's budgeted and planned. Almost never fast food; again, when we do it's budgeted, never a spur of the moment thing.

I have three kids who work at Chik-Fil-A, they get a substantial discount which extends to family. If my wife and are out we sometimes stop by for a CFA meal because it's WAY cheap. Otherwise we would not go at all.

If you discover the lost art that is sauteeing chicken or shrimp, tossing alfredo sauce over it, and using that to garnish pasta (add some additional cheese), and I can confirm the same effect. Adding seasonal fruit is just overkill.

If I wanted to be a full time uTuber, I'd just do a channel that is half lazy cooking lifehacks, the other half personal finance, because it's not actually that hard, entirely learn-able stuff, which makes whole major facets of life easier.

They had one just over the state border from our vacation house about 20 years ago. I think it's a BBQ joint now. I haven't been to one since. They started building a brand new one on our side of the border almost two years ago, and my at-the-time 9 year old was pretty excited when I told him about it because he loves pasta and bread. I figured it could be a fun guilty vacation pleasure. Sadly it got built and never opened. They ended up turning the building into a seafood restaurant.

When I was a freshman in college my older sister bought me a cookbook, titled something like "the single man's cookbook" or something like that. It was written in comic book/cartoon format, the recipes sou7nded complex but were easy, and it had a section about pairing wine and booze with food. Yes, women dug that. They dug men who commanded a kitchen and knew what they were doing.

My wife runs out kitchen (I run the grill). We teach all of our kids how to cook, and grill. If my wife and I dropped dead today, they could cook every meal.

I was lucky enough to have an aunt who had a catering business and wrote a cookbook. Her brother (my Dad), also cooked. He and his siblings all had to help out when they were young (that was the way it was back then). My Grandma could cook along with my Mom too. My wife was also a great cook, so I was fortunate to have all that going for me and got to absorb it all. Home cooked food is hard to beat. I don't care if it's from a fancy restaurant.

2 eggs of choice, hashbrowns, choice of meat and 2 toast is still less than $5, we have bacon(3), sausage(3 links or 2 patties), 1 chicken patty.
FFS I make every monday a pancake sandwich for a morning special and its 2, 2" pancakes with a whole ass medium egg cheese and either 2 strips of bacon, 1 patty of sausage of chicken and its $2.57 after tax.

I make like 30 of these ****ers and off the shelf they go, I cant be bothered to buy fast food anymore ever when I can make better at work and not have to pay for it.

When I was working in Mexico I would buy lunch off the food cart on the corner: 3 tacos carne asada, a styrofoam cup of frijoles charros and a bottle of Jarritos for 20 pesos (about $2). The meat was cooked over a barrel of mesquite firewood and the beans boiled over an old camp stove. That was the last time I enjoyed “fast food”.

I can put away a Papa Johns or Little Ceasers Pizza by myself.
When I make pizza at home it's only 3 slices. My Son claims that is because of fresh ingrediants and what he calls nutrition density. Fresh Homemade Food fills you up faster.

Let's see here

At work a taco is about $1.25 each and you get beans for about $0.75 and a bottle of Mexican soda here is about $1.50

You should see taco day here.

We don't charge extra for toppings like onions, cilantro, salsas nad other shit.

Had fast food for the first time in roughly 15+ years, chik fill a, basic sandwich $5.00 pretty cheap, edible, and super fast drive thru service.

Chick-fil-A beat being cancelled, that is a pretty good indicator.
