was able to shoot my very first .223 reloads yesterday:D

Hornady 75gr BTHP's

shot 3 rounds of 6 each. all with Win748

23.3gr

23.7gr

24.0gr

made sure after each round fired there were no signs of overpressure.

No FTF's

was too dark though for my chrono to pick anything up, but now that I am at max for this load I am going to mess with COL, and hopefully find a sweet spot.

Thanks for all the good reading in the R&A forum!

Nice job. It does feel good the first time you make your own bullets and they work just like factory ammo, sometimes better. What "sweet spot" are you tring to find, accuracy? To be honest, most max listed loads are rarely the most accurate. If you respond let me know the twist rate of your barrel, just curious is all.

well I was just going to mess with the OAL and see if there was any difference in accuracy, probably won't be much though.

the twist rate of your barrel

It's a 1:7

Hornady has a OAL guage that may help you. If I remeber correctly it was fairly inexpensive.

Hornady 5.56 TAP is what I'm trying to duplicate, they are at 2.240 OAL.

I got outstanding accuracy from 60gr V-MAX (1/9 twist) with COL of 2.250. Five rounds in a size less than a quarter at 75yds. ( I know I know no pics no proof)
