View Full Version : Who buys a .45 these days, I guess me

I went to my LGS to attempt to trade my stupid 30 round Sig mags for 21 rounders. My buddy said, no problem. While looking I see a Sig Legion 220 Optics ready on the shelf. I asked, can I apply the mags to the gun, "no prob".

Out the door I go with my new Sig. I don't have any .45 guns with a RDS, so this scratches that itch.

Two bonus points for me:
Their new optics ready guns accept any RDS, drilled and tapped for both foot prints with no stupid plate.
The gun fits my 226 Holsters, God Bless America.

I’ve wanted a Sig P220 for the last 30 years (practicality has kept me from buying) and that one is nice.

If running a rmr pattern, there will be a gap. I know CHPWS makes a very thin plate that the screws go straight through that fills in the gap and gives you recoil lugs.

I just picked up a Colt Series 70 Classic naked slide and a bunch of Harrison Retro parts for a winter project. Figured I ought to have at least 1911.

Nice. I have an older P220 (.45ACP). I have contemplated on buying the LEGION model in .45 and/or 10mm. I already have two P229 LEGIONs (one is the RXP), a P226 LEGION, and the XFIVE LEGION.

I'm looking at a Glock 21 Gen 4. G21's seem to be somewhat under the radar these days.

I finally joined the 1911 club. I put off getting one for many many many years. Then I went to the range after work with some buddies and he bought a stainless Garrison while there. I tried not to shoot if, I did everything to avoid shooting it. Then…… I shot it. My groups at 15yds went from 3-4” with my G19 to almost touching with the 1911. I was hooked, I bought a Dan Wesson specialist in duty black a few days later. That is one fine shooting gun. I almost went 9mm, but you got to have at least one 1911 in 45…..right?

Gorgeous gun. I still think the .45 is awesome.

A buddy has a p220 Legion in 10mm. The gun really impressed me. My favorite pistol shooting full bore 10 mil I've ever shot. I imagine it's even sweeter shooting in 45, and with the optic cut, I'm officially envious. Congrats on the sweet gat, Papa!

I am one of those few fortunate folks whose first firearm purchase (1) wasn't complete crap and (2) decades later I still have it. A W. German marked P220/45, proofed in Germany and imported via SIG USA before they started assembling and then producing firearms.

I shoot it once every year or so, but it was my main handgun in my early 20s. Back in the heart of the AWB and 8+1 of 45ACP was not far off from 10+1 of 9MM.

I acquired a full size Sig 320 in .45 around thanksgiving.

I wanted to try one so I searched for a few months and all I could find was a used one, I bought it for what I thought was a fair price.

I had to go back to the hospital so I haven't shot it yet, hopefully soon though.

Earlier this year I bought a CZ 97B before they were discontinued by CZ. Have yet to shoot it, but it's a big, heavy beast. Don't think they were ever big sellers for CZ.

Thanks Fellas, I have a Holosun 507 to pop on it. Unfortunately it won't get here until tomorrow. So one outing with just irons won't kill me I guess. Very eager to see how it shoots.

I got rid of my P220 with long and short slides to buy a computer for my wife when I was a broke LCpl almost 15 years ago. What a cool gun, wish I still had it.

I sold my MARS Colt 1911 and Glock 21 after my agency allowed 9mm pistols. The 21 was a great duty pistol, it just offered this emotional stability with the knowledge of 13 rounds of 230gr on tap. I much prefer my Glock 45, ACRO P2, and 22 rounds of 9mm now, but the 21 was something special.

45's are a piece of Americana, I wish I still owned one of those three today.

Years ago I consolidate my guns/cartridges, 9mm is the only semi-auto pistol cartridge to survive the purge. If I were to branch out a little again 45acp would the one I'd add.

Nice Sig! I had a P220 and foolishly traded it. It’s one of the few that I legitimately regret selling. I miss it!!!
Now a Glock 21 SF sits in its place. Not a bad ride with it either. It’s my .45 fighting gun.
Picked up a DW Valor a few months back… not my 1st 1911 .45… might end up being my last. Shoots so well. It’s my Barbecue gun.

Nice pickup.

The P220 is the only .45 I kept.
I got a 226 later on and found all my holsters worked for it too, which is handy.

Two rounds that will never go away & will ALWAYS have a place are the 45ACP & 30.06.
I wish I never got rid of my G41. And I like the G21 I had for a decade very much, too.
Nice piece PB.

I culled a lot of calibers from my collection. 45ACP was not one of them! Ironically, none of my .45ACP platforms are optic ready. Considering my ageing eyes, I’ll have to remedy that in 2023. The G21 & 1911 are the base lines in .45ACP. I’ve added M&P, Sig 220 & 8045 to the mix. Full size platforms in this cal & 10mm feel so right, IMHO!

Grip is not that different in size than 9mm PPQ.
Shoots soft.

I had a stainless framed P220 a long time ago, it was a railed sport frame. I traded that one away, but I’ve always wanted to get another one. I shoot a lot of 45, so for me it’s not going away anytime soon.

I have my Dad's German P220 which is Duo Toned in NP3. I ought to get a pic uploaded.

I went on a SIG P220 kick back in the early 2000s; I had a couple of blued, full Nickel and Two Toned guns All the guns came over blued and SIG USA had Klein plating to the Nickel work or Two toned. There are some exceptions of earlier guns having finishes done in Germany but most of the 90s SIG had it done at Klein. The Klein work was exceptional and the full Nickel guns were a sight to behold.

Only have the 1 original now; at times having one Nickel would be nice to have, but that exercise taught me I was not a collector but a shooter, so my 'safe queens' are few.

It probably has 5-7K rounds through it, I've changed the springs / breechblock pins in it as well but I don't shoot any of my remaining 45s often (SIG, HK45C, and Colt 1911). In fact if I had more than 200 rds of 45 on me, I would be surprised.

Pappabear
01-01-23, 14:14
Rhino, I am with you. I have very few safe queens. A few but only a few. I bought my Buddies 1/500 KAC taupe painted SR15 that he wouldn't run the CH, much less shoot it. He was thrilled to know I took it to the range every weekend for a years. But he couldn't make himself do it. But he is the guy with 3 MP5's and shoots only one.

I have 2 .45's. A Springfield Vickers Master Class 1911 and a M&P Midsized I haven't shot the M&P in a couple of years. However, I shoot the 1911 quite a bit. Overall though the M&P is the most accurate of all the handguns I own.

I'm looking at a Glock 21 Gen 4. G21's seem to be somewhat under the radar these days.

I bought one as used at a pawn shop. It was smooth, slick while racking the slide. Only issue was it only had 1 magazine.
AIM Surplus had used G 21 mags for 14 or 15 bucks, picked up 6.
I bought the G21 because the G20 was OOS or a bazillion dollars.
G20's loosened up and found 1 at Blue Label price. I am fond of 45 acp and can't get rid of it.
I also bought a 10 to 40 barrel so I can help a friend burn up his stash. He likes my G20 gen 4 frame/heft better than his G22 gen 4.

HK45C. LEM or DA/SA. I prefer the DA/SA. It’s a pretty good size gun, but honestly it’s probably one of the best out there. The G30 is nice as well.

Have a late 70’s era (pre 80 series), two tone, Jim Hoag “Combat Commander” that shoots well and has sentimental value.
My personal favorite. Arguably a “compact”.

I'm looking to buy a smaller .45. Smaller than the S&W M&P 2.0 I have, anyway.

An alluminum @4 in 1911 isn't ruled out.

I bought a new G30 G4 a year or two ago. Was not only too fat but it threw every casing in my face.

A buddy had a G39. Threw too many cases in my face. And was just not a good balance. (Short grip)

I'm going to get a G38 from him and see how that goes. If it it works okay and I get it to not throw cases at me I'll have the grip completely redone and get a slide cut.

The M&P 45, IMO, has the best form factor when you consider capacity. I’m still interested in all of HKs offerings though.

It's too bad they dont make a compact .45 right now.

They make full size in a 4.6 and 4.0 inch and then the Sheild models. The Sheild models are subcompact and flush mags don't support my little finger.

They used to make a model in between the two but no longer do.

I pretty much have most every HK pistola already PB. The one I don’t have is the MK23 and that thing is just too damned big for me…..

I got my 3rd order of screws to attempt to install my RDS to my P220. The screws crown didn't fit perfect but at least they were long enough. I tried to install tonight and will test tomorrow, this slide /RDS is killing me.

I hope these work, if not I ordered some from C&H that are supposed to work, we will see. This new slide with 6-40 screws have kicked my ass. Sig did the classic brilliant thing, almost.
