From today's (19 Jan 23) DoD contract announcements. Wonder who the other two bidders were?

Good for them. Glad to see the military moving beyond metal mags.

That’s been the standard in all of my units since 2017 or so.

The majority of my AR mags are Magpul, and my "serious" ammo is loaded in windowed Gen M3 mags with dust covers.

That being said - are Magpul mags really superior to metal mags with the newest followers? I thought they were considered good to go.

Researched this award on DIBBS, there are two NSN's being ordered - 1005-01-615-5169 (Black) and 1005-01-659-7086 (Medium Coyote Tan). I don't know - do the Army and Navy order separate colors?

There’s nothing official. Black may be $1 cheaper if I remember right. I’ve seen them occasionally but for a tiny bit more of fake money, there’s no reason not to get coyote.

Yes. More than most people realize.

IIRC, one of the military's original concerns was that metal mags work better in Arctic conditions, when plastic can become brittle. Evidently, modern polymers have overcome that problem.
