The areas that were under Disney's control are a lot nicer than the rest of the middle of FL. Just saying. Coasts are fine, middle is a bit of a mess although Everglades City for Stone Crab off the boat pretty much makes up for the rest of FL.

Agreed. Last time I was at Disney, we stayed off property at my aunt and uncle's timeshare, which was about a 20 minute drive from Disney. That area ranged from ugly and unimpressive in some areas, to ugly and scary in others. I don't think I'd live in Orange County unless I lived on the Disney property.

As much as I despise what the Disney corporation has become, I think this will probably end up being a mistake. Highly doubt the counties or state will do a better job of the administration of the area, but maybe they'll strike a new deal in a couple years and Disney will have paid through the nose enough to have learned a lesson about the limits of corporate advocacy, especially on stupid azz woke nonsense.

I get that municipalities and jurisdictions use all sorts of tax breaks and financial incentives to lure investment and business, but it seems that Orlando and Florida have let Disney call the shots for a very long time to the detriment of Orlando and Florida.

I also agree that the area in which Disney resides is very nice, but it seems to me that Disney acts like the local crime boss, extorting and controlling the narrative and muscling anyone wanting to encroach in their territory.

From what I've read, the administration of the Reedy Creek Improvement District will remain much the same. The difference is, the five members of the governing board, will be appointed by the Florida governor instead of the Disney bosses in California.

Is this some type of ‘equity’ play to drag down Disney to be more like the surrounding dilapidated areas where government has more control? Disney not ‘paying it’s fair share’?

Need so much more of this. Teach these non political entities to mind their own f'ing business and let the politicians make a mockery of politics on their own. We should all be so straightforward and hit those pushing wokeness and other lunacy right in the wallets. ONLY way we'll ever bring sanity back to the country. Verizon wants to back the anti police bit and support BLM, great, all those with half a spine switch to other carriers; Target wants to sell clothing to assist gender confused youth with self harm, super, don't spend another damn dollar in that place; Starbucks wants to weigh in on all things woke, wonderful, don't spend your money there; "Woka-Cola" wants to be all in on the lefty agenda, magnificent, drink something else. It's not that hard and it has an impact, even if it's just to prove to yourself that you have an ounce of integrity to stand up for what you believe. Opposing this crap doesn't mean you have to launch a whole business like at the Daily Wire, but do something. Why continue to give money to companies that openly support those that hate everything about people like me. Will you be able to avoid everything? Of course not, but at least actions like DeSantis is taking let these corporations know that normal people still exist and they are giving up some profits by wading into the political arena.

100%. If I was not clear, I am pro-punishing Disney. They should have remained apolitical and pro-family. Instead, they chose a side. Desantis drew the line and Disney pissed over it.

Anyone guess how mush this will cost Disney?\
I'm just saying that they "Broke the Girl", I was hearing numbers like 700 million was saved by Disney according to the old deal.
With the Prices Disney is charging, it's highly unlikely a lot of Americans can now afford to go. I recently saw a video of a guy spending close to $700 dollars for a one day date at Disney Florida. He wasn't being frivilous either.

I think in the long run, the only thing to cost Disney money will be how to game the new situation in their favor. Once they figure it out, it will be business as usual. However, in the short term it scary for them, as they lost $2.5 billion on Disney+ alone, and the theme parks, Disney Corp' cash cow, is the focus of the bill.

Disney+ can lose money quarter after quarter thanks to Blackrock and ESG ratings. However, their real cash cow, the theme parks, allow them to be so arrogant, as they thought they were untouchable. The SW hotel fiasco notwithstanding.

Like I said above, I guy wrote the costs of his Disney date at $700.00 and he wasn't being extravegent.
Who can afford that?

Problem is, Wall Street is making kissing the DEI/etc/WTFE O-ring a condition of the bridge loans and other capital sources many companies rely on, and activist-run hedge funds like Blackrock and Vanguard are basically using their HUGE share holdings for blackmail saying "do as we say or we'll dump our shares and bankrupt you by cratering your share price."
