Interesting enough there is an AR-180 in with those SP1s.

Who knew that some day I would have way more than their arms room. But in 75 to 76 I was watching this every time it came on.

And who knew a scoped M1 carbine was the ultimate "bad guy" sniper gun.

Despite being an Aaron Spelling production, this was actually pretty cutting edge for the time and depicted events similar to the SLA shootout and the Manson family. It was a spinoff of "The Rookies" which in turn followed on the success of shows like Adam 12 with their "reality based" depictions of law enforcement.

The title theme is simply iconic and amazingly "r&b/funk" for such a mainstream tv show.

The cop shows that followed tended to be more of the CHiPs "family friendly" variety that was more Love Boat but with cops. And if that show didn't make you want a M-16 / AR-15, nothing did.

And yes I was that kid running around the front yard with a plastic M-16 going "dunnana dunnana dunnana nunna nunna nunna" as I ran from cover to cover.

I've got the complete series on DVD. I loved it as a kid, too. M1 Carbine were definitely the bad guy weapon of choice. The episode with Frank Gorshin as Rizi was one of my favorites. Those photo you posted of them crossing that water might be from that episode.

ETA:
They sure f'ed up the movie.

Makes sense, that is before the three were on the team, during selection/training.

Not sure about you but I'm still in the front yard going "dunnana dunnana dunnana nunna nunna nunna."

Haha. If I could still run, I'd join ya.

We did the same thing when we were kids during that period when the show ran. I was so disappointed when they cancelled it. Being a kid, I didn't know why it wasn't on Saturday nights anymore. I kept waiting and waiting ...

The movie, the current tv show is horrible.

Mine was Commando. When Matrix went into his shed and opened the door to his safe room...oh man. That is still one of my life's goals. To have a safe room built into a mountain, stocked full of my favorite lead dispensers.

They only roll in John Woo movies, not in real life…
