I'm building a 9mm full size (5 inch) 1911.

Do you guys think this needs a ramped barrel or barrel with no ramp (GI style).

Please share your opinion.

After much internal debate and reading various sites and also looking at what the profesional mfgs chose to produce in 9mm, I chose to ramp.

I built a 9mm STI 2011 nowlin ramped, stormlake extended and threaded bull barrel.
If it were a .45 no ramp needed, but I thought the much shorter 9mm would benifit.
I have not had a single problem with feeding and have not had any failures except when I was tested various recoil springs to find the right one.

I am not a gunsmith but I thought that one of the reasons to use a ramped barrel over a standard 1911 barrel for 9mm is that a ramped barrel will support the case better.

My Springfield 1911 in 9mm uses a ramped barrel.

I had a 9mm government built in 2003. For that project, I talked to about 8 smiths (a mix of well known, up and coming at the time, Garthwaite, etc.). There was really no consensus - they were evenly divided as to whether it was important, and which way to go. The gun is ramped, works perfectly, and feeds all ammunition across the entire range of OAL's.

I have 2 9mm 1911s
an un-ramped one by ED Brown
and a ramped one by SDM Fabricating
I have shot many thousands of rounds through both of them
The only issues with the ED Brown pistol is that it will not feed with the new Wilson mags.
