So I joined the NRA back in Nov. (11/10 to be exact) I also signed up my wife as well. The membership cards arrived a while back, but I just tossed them into my 'go through later' pile. Well I went through them today, and noticed something interesting.

The memberships were purchased 7 minutes apart according the the email confirmations that I received. Looking at our membership numbers, they are 596 numbers apart. Since the membership numbers are clearly sequential, that means that in 7 minutes, almost 600 people joined.

Extrapolation of this data means:

About 85 / members a minute
About 5,108 / members an hour
About 122,605 / members a day

That is alot of people.

i have heard that NRA membership is at an all-time high.. however your math might not be accurate. it's quite possible that they only do the paperwork for registration every so often.. meaning they save up a few thousand new memberships and process them all once a month or something.. could be only 600something people joined in a week or month or couple month period.

just speculation.

What did it cost to go life member? I'm considering the same.

They have a plan where they bill you in quarterly increments of $25 until the full amount is paid, which I think is $800 now.
