Rather than stomp on Skintop's post: https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=2408

I figured I'd post my range report here. I picked up a Colt 6520 Gov't Carbine yesterday. I had a nib Colt 6920 upper waiting for it.

It was a cool (mid 50's) misty/drizzly Turkey day....it was nice having it all to myself today!

Anyway, 340 rounds later and I'm really liking this little carbine.

I sighted in both the original 6520 Carbine upper and the 6920 M4 upper I have for it. The 6520 was centered, but shot about 8" low at the 25 meter sight in target. The 6920 shot about 4" low and 2" to the left.

Brought the sights into alignment and we were good to go.

Used Wolf/Prvi Partizan M193 and Radway Green SS-109 with a '92 headstamp.

I don't have way to clock velocity, but I'll tell you that in very unscientific terms the Radway Green "felt" much hotter. Both shot to basically the same point of aim out to about 100 meters.

I used a mix of newer USGI mags with green followers and British SA-80 parkerized steel mags with the blue-black followers.

No reliablity issues with the carbine, but had one failure to feed using a LaBelle magazine with the green "anti-tilt" follower that, well, tilted..... No other issues.

I was reliably hitting a 6" steel plate at 100 meters off hand with iron sights.

I like the ballance of both uppers, although I'll keep the 6520 upper on there until I get an Aimpoint Comp ML3, in which case I'll probably run the 6920 upper on it.

Man, I like this little carbine a lot!

Be careful, supporting a BRD and an AK habit can really put a hurting on your wallet :D

:D Thanks man. I've had AR's for about as long as AK's, just not as many of them.

I'm thinking that instead of a rail system, I'd like to eventually put one of these Surefires on the 6920 upper.

I really do like the 6520 upper, it appeals to the KISS side of me. I'm also more used to a Colt SP-1 Carbine than any other style of shorty AR.

Another VA-er...

I was in Chesterfield last week, and I must say... Beautiful country... I plan on being there at least once a month, I have a cousin out that way neary Stony Point Mall, lots of pretty women...

Where some places to shoot out that way?

Another much cheaper system is using a Streamlight plastic rail ($18) and using a handheld Surefire light on a VLTOR ring or a pistol light like here on 9x19 (Bonnies) Ultra light AR that I built for her.

It's a old PWA lower, Colt SP1 upper, Colt 1/2 circle carrier/CMT bolt, Sully stock, Colt 16" 1x9 non chrome bore .625" barrel, carbine handguards. Streamlight rail w/M3 light. I wish Cav Arms made a lower with a Sully stock length stock. That and a 6933 (11.5" .625") barrel on an SBR would be VERY light.

I'm a member of Cavalier which is in western Hanover Co. I'm acutally in Chesterfield myself.

Next time you come up, bring Dinger and Marc with you and we'll get to the range!

Don and I have talked about hitting the range but so far we've been unsuccessful in making it. If we have to drive up there to go shooting so be it, it might work better than trying to go to one of the local ranges :D
