I recently added some Gear Aid camo wrap to one of my rifles... It isn't too bad as it thickens the grip a little bit which feels good in the hand. Around the handguard, it adds some comfort and tacticool features. There are a few companies like Ranger Wrap, Gunskins, etc.

Anyone else doing it or am I larping too much...

I bought a desert camo wrap from Midway because I didn’t want to paint my scope. It looks good enough, and was cheap enough. My only concern is how well it will hold up should the Russians invade Colorado; and I’m compelled to engage in guerilla tactics whilst screaming “WOLVERINES!!!”

Roll of vet wrap in camo or an earth tone, $1.50 at the farm supply store. Cheap, functional, color changes and repairs as needed.

Shame that the MultiCam Pro Tape was discontinued: https://soldiersystems.net/2015/09/02/pro-tapes-multicam-cloth-concealment-tape/

I use the tape on my scopes, conserving my roll until I run out, then I might have to try and source some of the Cordura with the adhesive, or just make some myself with spray glue. I do use the MultiCam camo form for my magnifier, which sees a lot more manipulation on the taped part. My RDSes and HWSes I've just painted; I would paint my LPVOs, but I'm concerned about the thickness built up and how that might affect mounting them in scope rings.

The tape is good not only for visual signature reduction, but also to provide additional impact protection and can also reduce acoustic signature (i.e., deaden the sound of stuff banging against whatever you taped up).

I'm not a huge fan of it in general, it tends to pick up gunk much easier than the Pro Tape cloth tape, and can only be used on stuff that can be wrapped, rather than just any flat surface.

I got some rolls of that stuff from Amazon, vet tape, or whatever it's called, adheres to itself. I only use it on things that don't paint well, like rubberized binoculars, antenna pole sections, etc. Does the trick for sure.

I paint everything else though. Don't want it on weapons or scopes, as It holds water like a sponge.

Have had good luck with Ranger Wrap, it's on the expensive side though. I know there is mucho hate for Goon tape but haven't had any issues with it on grips or using as makeshift camo on polymer rifles like Steyr AUG. I have had gunskinz as well, but I never get my application to look as good as the examples and it definitely does not like barrel heat. The gearaid stuff makes a sticky mess eventually. When it's new--it's great, after it sits for a few months it kinda gets a goopy/sticky feeling until you rip it off. I tend to paint first, Goon tape a little hear and there, RangerWrap high wear areas; on rifles that might get hot always have some sort of thermal barrier solution for support hand. Upside for Goon tape/Hockey tape--you can use rit dye to change colors and create your own solution.

For rit dye solution, find colors you like--mix and match to get better options--dilute as needed. I use a qtip to apply. Dries in about 20-30 minutes and doesn't wear off on you afterwards. rit dye can also work on plastic but needs a lot of time and sometimes heat to work. I did a bunch of sand color pmags a few years ago with mixed results.

If I shoot the gearaid rifle until barrel is hot it will melt off or possibly catch on fire, hard to say which. Exciting!!!

I think that is the largest problem with it.

Also slows the metal rails from sucking the heat from your hand when hunt in 10 degrees.

Not by much, but every bit helps.
