Here's a boring thread on a pretty nice DD product. Only video I could find on it was a snoozer Brownell's short clip. Their Flash Hider is a nice looking. Kind of an A2 and a Phantom cross bred.

I was looking for a non-circus extended in case I needed to perm a 14.5. I really liked the SF extended, but it was $155, and this thing was $55.

Haven't even fired it yet, but this site is a snooze lately, so screw it... here's a thread.

Nice. I’ve been thinking of replacing my BCM compensator as it can be obnoxious to folks around me.

My buddy has one of those on a P&W 14.5 and it performs nicely as far as I can tell from observing and shooting it. I couldn’t really tell any difference between it and our myriad of A2’s.

I was in the same boat about a month ago. Didn’t want to spend $130-150 for a Surefire, so was looking at cheaper extended A2 offerings. Ended up getting a brand new FCD 6315KM for $60 shipped, but that DD MD was on my radar.

I went FCD last time, but this also looks like a great option. If SF would lower their price to even $100, I'd probably have more of their stuff. This thread is a good reference for practical components.

You knew that DD was bought out by LWRC right?

I will at least agree that 100 bucks or more for a MD is ridiculous. Always good to see good options that don't cost an arm and a leg. That one looks like a decent design.

Still only using A2 cages on everything here though.

The only downside for Pin and Weld is that you have to drill you own hole. And breaking the Nitride hard surface is a bitch for a DIY guy.

You tryin to give marks an aneurysm???

I think you can call Daniel Defense and ask for one that is predrilled.

This is the number I got for them - (410) 901-1348

I'll keep that in mind if I get another.

I missed the part about nitride, FCD still offers phosphate on some of its parts. I had two of their MDs on previous guns but can't remember wtf they were treated with. Wether suppressed or not is a big determiner (word). Everything I have now has spacers and A2s, two of them by SA, one by John Thomas. I'm so used to how they look they seem normal now.

Although I won't run a Nitride barrel currently, the finish on a flash hider doesn't bother me the slightest bit.

Curious, how come you won't run a Nitride barrel?

Drilling through it ain't bad, I had to dimple one a while back.

American Mediocrity is why. We had a shit Faxon barrel that those scumbags didn't make good on. Was shooting like 3 MOA plus after a few hundred rounds. Sent it back and they told Pappabear it looked like it had 10k through it. Had a bad Nitride job. There was a thread here not too long ago about how there were issues with improper nitriding in the industry.

I won't say that I'll NEVER EVER buy a nitride barrel. But right now I'm avoiding them.

I also avoid nitrided barrels in favor of CL barrels. The only nitrided barrel I own is a SOLGW 18” SPRish. Between their lifetime guarantee and the lower rate of fire inherent to that type of shooting I’m not concerned with it, but I stick with good CL barrels for my hard use guns.

Waiting on my 14.5" to come back from pin and weld with one. Drilling the hole sucked. Broke two bits. I contacted DD about getting one pre drilled (Leo contact) and they wouldn't sell me one.

Is the bottom closed like an A2? I can't tell in the pics.

I had to break the surface hardness with a wedge punch in an x pattern before drilling.

Not exactly. There are openings at about 4 oclock and 8 oclock, but the bottom is closed. So the bottom half isn't completely un-cut like an A2.

Street price is 90 USD. Primary Arms has it for 73 USD right now: https://www.primaryarms.com/surefire-3-prong-eliminator-556-flash-hider-1-2x28

BCM A2X is only 35 USD, brings you to 16.1" on a 14.5": https://bravocompanyusa.com/bcm-a2x-extended-a2-flash-suppressor/

For the same price the VDI Manimal (https://adamsarms.net/product/vdi-manimal-extended-flash-hider/) lets you disassemble after pinning if you so choose, assuming a standard 0.750 journal.

Interesting idea. But I bet it looks out of proportion. I've never loved the look of an extended A2, and if it were skinny enough to remove an FSB, it would be odd looking I'd guess. This is all cosmetics and gay, I know. But I'm super fussy about a muzzle device.

Mark, forgive me for being a little off topic. I know you’ve said before that you have a 14.5 elw with a Bcm comp. I have the same upper. I was just wondering if you don’t like that md or just wanted something cheaper or different? I have put probably around a thousand rounds through mine in roughly a year all in the mountains during the day. You do a lot more shooting than I do it seems, and I was wondering if you had shot it indoors like a shoot house or at night and if you liked it or not?
