Those Turkish 1911's are everywhere, I tell ya :D

"Tisas USA, a division of SDS Imports, the internationally recognized firearms manufacturer that provides high quality firearms at unrivaled value is pleased to announce a partnership with the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP).

Tisas is the first commercial manufacturer to build a 1911 pistol for CMP. The Tisas M1911 A1 is a museum-grade reproduction of a mid-war M1911A1 as it was issued during the Second World War, will also be available in the CMP version, which will have the CMP logo on it, and sold exclusively through CMP stores."

That's really cool.

Man-o-man, these guys have a magic ability to see what is needed and show up with it. Gotta hand it to them. The Tisas I've looked at have been darned good, and for the money, really, really good.

That should have been Colt. Maybe, maybe.... Springfield. But Tisas is the one that showed up I guess.

$480 MSRP? I'll believe it when I see it!

The Fudds will neckbeard them then turn around and sell on Gunbroker for a cool grand (easily).

Yeah, I know, free market and all. Sigh.....

Doesn't seem like a deal to me??

Those are "commercial" models. I didn't see "built to CMP standards" (or whatever) in those ads. The OP clearly states that the ones in question will be built for the CMP. Now does that mean they are better? Doubt it, but attaching "CMP" to it will kick the price up I suspect.

Hey, after watching (from a distance) what happened with the CMP 1911 sales I think the prediction may be valid.

This was in the comments:

This article states that the pistol will be an “extraordinary CMP branded museum grade replica”. Tisas sells a model on their website labeled “Tisas 1911A1 “ASF” U.S. Army 45″ with similar specs and the same MSRP. What is the difference between this ordinary model that is already available and the “extraordinary” CMP branded model aside from the branding?

Your guess is as good as mine!

A buddy at work recently bought one of the GI model 1911A1 Tisas for a little under 400 bucks. I gotta say I was pretty impressed with it.

Let's face it, CMP is running out of surplus rifles/pistols to sell and this will keep the boat afloat for an indefinite time and you know what, good for them. I'm sure the pistols will be different/special and anyone with half a brain will realize there are just replicas and not the real deal but then I'm sure someone will try and get over on someone before it is all is said and done, human nature I guess, LOL Hey if it helps fund/sponsor more shooting/training and youth involvement in the shooting sports then good for them, keep up the good work I say!

Heck, the heat treatment on these Tisas guns may actually be superior to wartime GI models.

We need all the help we can get keeping the shooting sports and firearms interest alive. More firearms in the hands of private citizens is a great thing. Good on CMP!

The only Tissas pistol I own is one of their stainless steel BR9 pistols….a Hi Power clone. It’s well made and runs great. I don’t own an old school war era 1911. I’ll definitely take a look at these reproductions when they drop.

I'll probably get one to drag to the range with my Garand.

Wouldn't it be cool if one of these companies like TISAS (since they're able to make a "high-grade" copy of their 1911) did a run of to-spec M1 Garands and/or Carbines? Hell, maybe even an M14 clone! Yeah I know, highly unlikely, but it sure doesn't hurt to wish!

That'd be cool. I want a carbine, but I can't afford a "real" one and the commercial versions are too uncertain. If they made a good one that worked, would they be affordable?

A company would make bank if they introduced an M1 Carbine, M1 Garand of good quality. Besides, it would make the old stinky Fudd's heads explode.

I would love to see 1903A3s made again for a reasonable price.

H&R has talked about the possibility of M14s/Garands before. Be expensive, but it's possible.

Carbines are already produced by Auto-Ordnance/Kahr.

I keep reading that these are unreliable. Do you have experience with them?

Not really. I know some guys that use 'em for reenactments. Sold one or two at work, but haven't heard any reports back. With all carbine reliability issues, the weak part, I've always heard, is with the magazines.

Inland used to sell a nice Ithaca M37 Trench Gun clone, but that's been discontinued for several years now.

I thought that the guys that own Palmetto State Armory had an interest or owned the rights for all H&R things and they did talk about M1s early on I thought.

Yeah, H&R is owned by PSA.

A sample of one, picked up a Tisa 1911 a few months back, new, nice finish, would not complete a mag without jamming. Perhaps just a bad gun that slipped through QA unnoticed, but as far as I'm concerned, worthless pos and would never purchase another one. Same for Kimber 1911's, never again. Dan Wesson's & Colt on the other hand, always worked.

I've worked on a couple of 1911's and in my experiance, this is what happens with 50% of the budget 1911's.
Unless you buy one with the intent of sending it off somewhere to be worked on and "tuned" you've bought a nice paperweight.
If that's not what you want then go buy a Colt.

Then after five years you'll send the Colt off for some fancy stuff, just cause it's cool and runs like a sewing machine.

Good on CMP for getting something to keep the program running. I'm with a few others on hoping for other vintage models added to the lineup. I've stopped in a few times. Luckily I decided to pick up a few M1 Garand bayonets and a post WW2 Garand and some clips for it. I'm still kicking myself for not buying one of the few Enfield's they had, I had called to see if they still had any of a small batch of 1903a3s. None were worth even carrying out. If I had been a planned purchase I would have gone with a WW2 vintage M1. Now on a TISAS 1911A1 I would likely add one to my collection. I've got a Auto Ordnance 1911a1 years ago it's spent almost 15 years just in gun safe. If your going to shoot a 1911 the tinker bug will probably take hold.
