Got the news around 11pm, to say the least I didn't sleep well.

He was a Great American. No one had to make him great, he made himself. A Patriot till the end. Non apologetic flag waver.

A wonderful son.

A mighty warrior (SF in VN). Fought the communists then had to pull his guns several times during the race riots in the early 70s. Rioters looted his parents "mom and pop" grocery store. Had to E&E from their own business to keep from shooting the looters.

Even got cast as an extra in John Wayne's "The Green Beret" when he was stationed at Ft. Benning.

Great friend to all he knew.

Great husband to his wife.

Got Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma 15 or so years ago. Fought and won against the disease. Had other health issues that took him down at the end. I wonder if some of the sickness were the result from being exposed to agent orange.

RIP G.C.

My dad lost a good friend last summer with very similar illnesses. His are likely from agent orange exposure during Nam as well. Very sorry for your loss.

Non-Hodgkins lymphoma is indeed one of the Agent Orange presumptive VA service-connected illnesses.

May your friend RIP.

My heart is heavy for his widow. The one left behind always has the toughest road ahead.

One huge thing I forgot to mention, he LOVED 1911s.

Also, not for nothing, I had a cousin who served in VN, first with the 9th ID, then SF. I did not know him super well, he died of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in the early 80s, so I was about 13 or so. He had been exposed to Agent Orange.

-RIP-

Agent Orange was nasty stuff and a lot of V/N vets, including my father, had health complications from exposure.

Sorry for your loss, man. I just lost my dad to cancer at 69. It’s a tough one to deal with. I hope all the good memories will help ease the heartache. We’ll always have those.

Thoughts and prayers to you and his family. RIP.

I was just thinking about VN veterans, and how many make it a priority to say “welcome home” when they meet some of us younger veterans. It’s truly humbling, and something I’m going to try to incorporate.

So welcome home, and RIP

A week later we paid respect to our friend. There were roughly 150 people that attended the funeral, friends of the family, former coworkers, friends that were introduced to him by third parties. Regardless, all who met G. embraced him into their heart and soul.

After the service we all went to the grave site and he was given a military send off.
