It began life with me as a basket case, that was missing parts. Over the last six months I have been making changes .

From something like this, (actually started worse than this, tiny sights and missing parts before I took pictures): I added Millet sights, and some parts out of my parts bin to get it running.

To this: New trigger, grips, beveled the mag well, trigger job.

To this: New beaver tail, hammer, more bevel in the mag well, raised front strap/triggerguard, EGW barrel bushing, and a coat of Norrels Moly Resin.

MEU/SOC inspired. I'm considering an ambi safety if I can find one I like. If it needs to be more accurate I may fit a Kart Barrel.

Here are pics of a couple targets I shot today.

50 foot slow fire 10 rounds. Two flyers that were definitely me. Still getting used to the new hammer/sear interaction, and snatched the trigger a bit before I settled the front sight in the middle of the black.

45 feet controlled pairs. (too slow to be double taps). Combat accurate I guess. Put about 80 round through it. No problems.

Very cool. If I was ever to get a 1911 I'd go with SA, most likely the MC Operator. :) Nice project gun.

Looks great! I love the simple no BS look and the lack of FCS are always a plus ;).

The hammer is a take-off part from one of my friends Colt Commander.

Very nice. I'm working on something similar, built around a Colt M1991A1.

By MEU/SOC project, are you referring to a Marine Expeditionary Unit/Special Operations Capable project? Haven't seen that jargon for a number of years, I miss the Corps.

Yes. Old skool, before the MC operator buzz.

Wow, Old School, huh. My how things have changed. I floated with the 22, 24, and 26 MEU/SOC out of Camp LeJeune, all with 3/8.

When I was on the MIAMI we had some young Marines embark to provide some security as we transited through the Suez. They kept refering to their tri-color desert BDU's as "Old-Schools", because they had just received their "Digits". It reminded me of how old I was getting, because I remmember when the Tri-colors replaced the Chocholate Chips.

Looking good. I carried one for duty for 4 years. It served me well. I carried mine in a summer special rig. I shot duty ammo of 185 or 220 ball.

For concealed carry I think I'm going to look into building a Bobtailed Commander.

That's pretty cool. Call me old school but I like wraparound Pachmayrs.

Do you know off hand what base pads you are running on the mags?

Those look like Kimber Pro mags. If that's what they are, they suck. I bought three of them and none of them would sit fully loaded with 8 rounds in any of my 1911's. Beyond that the springs are FAR too stiff out of the box. They are a pain to load and I had tons of failures to feed. After putting less than 100 rounds through each of them, they all have problems locking the slide back on all my 1911's. And now the springs in two of them are so mushy and soft, they are now causing failures to feed. So basically the quality of the mags suck. That's just been my experience. I do like the fact that they come with three base pads of different thicknesses. Other than that, there is no redeeming quality to them.

They are indeed Kimber's KimPro Tac-Mags. I've been running four of them in two different 1911s for several months without any of the dificulites you are describing. No failures to feed, load easily, lock in and drop free easily. Another nice feature about the removeable base pads is that you could swap out any of the mags internals rather easily. If you wanted a different spring or follower it would be a simple swap.

Not worth the effort. I just grabbed some more Wilson Combat 47D mags. Those have been serving me well for years.

Great looking weapon! I may have to try on some pachmayers on my duty gun and take it for a spin. The innate beauty of a straight forward 1911 is a wonderful thing.

Good choice, that's what I carry. I didn't build it, but had it done by a local guy who's no longer in business.

Here's my own MEU(SOC) inspired project; I had much of the work done years ago. My big accomplishments were fitting an Ed Brown Match barrel, replacing the Novak rear with a YB, and refinishing it. With the new barrel, it's phenomenally accurate.
