Noveske just sold 50 MOE Noveske/Magpul complete rifles which sold out in 5 hours for 1995....=0)
They are nice... I just got some in too a day or two ago and was very impressed when I took a look at one. Now to just get something besides black ;-)

There are already a few other threads on the MOE handguards as well, but it all builds interest, so thats not a bad thing at all.

hey, guys, help me understand what is so cool about these? from just looking at them, they look like they'd be even more slippery and difficult to hold on to than the standard handguards when wet/muddy/sweaty. I'm guessing like all the other magpul products, there's a purpose, I just don't see it yet. could be lack of caffeine this AM :)
I want them for a couple of reasons.
One is that I like the ability to attach things to the slots (like a light). The second is that they cover up the sling mount hole and handguard cap a bit and if your hand creeps out there that becomes one hot bitch.
I don't like the look of them at all. I'm function over fashion though... so....
They almost give a "FALish" appearance to the AR... and that ain't good, baby.

That's worth the price of admission, right there. I'm so used to mid-lengths and longer railed fore-ends that picking up a basic carbine almost feels awkward because my hand is so far back. Being able to creep my hand a little farther foward without contacting a hot gas block would be worth an extra few bucks...

sorry for the stupid question... how do you attach stuff to the slot?

If you hold them in your hand, you might have a different opinion. They have a quality feel to them that is far superior to the common handguard.
C4
I like the "FALish" look of the handguard. I think it looks cool, look comfortable to fold, and it looks solid.
I like it.

Any word on whether MagPul is producing now, or will in the future, the MOE handguard in a mid-length?

Not if no one picks up. :(
I sent you an email expressing interest, but as I've never purchased from you before I wasn't sure of the procedure.
Should I send another email with my credit card info as well and consider the order submitted?

Cheap way to drop rails where you want them. I like them setup with a light, and no VFG, but thats just what is comfortable for me using the light and shooting with them.

I was at the show today and picked up a set. I normally get my stuff from Grant (like the complete lower and A3 upper), but it was there in front of me and for sale.
I like them a lot. I have a set of GG&G rails that I am going to try. I am a light only guy so these make more sence for me than a $260 rail system.

Exactly right on both points. Not to mention they are much cheaper than going with a low pro and 9 rail.
I suppose I should add my .02 also. I ordered mine yesterday and should have them Wednesday or Thursday. This will be the first "upgrade" I've done to my AR.:D

Spent some time at the range with the MOE handguard on my light carbine.
It feels very natural, based on how easily the hand wraps around the triangular shaped guards.
You can also grip the rifle stronger and with less apparent muscle tension. It feels so good, I don't feel a need to put a vertical grip on it yet.
Here is a friend trying it out:

Well a $30 price point ain't bad at all.
Would it be advisable to mount a sling attachment to the guards?

Dumb question time.
I have a Colt 6920, which has the factory installed front sling attachment that is mounted on the barrel, under the front sight base.
Will the MOE handguard work with this, or is the hand guard too long?
I admit I wasn't that interested in the MOE handguard until I say the pictures of a piece of rail attached here and there.
I also would be happy just mounting a light, but having choices as to where to mount it.

These handguards feel very good in the hand. I think they are much better option over the standard handguard. Another thing I noticed is that these are very "Masadaish". Take a look at the masada and then the MOE handguard and you will see.

The MOE handguards are compatible with side sling swivels. However, the sling swivel will not lay flat against the side of the weapon due to the "flange" on the MOE handguards.

hey guys, for my MOE I am wondering if I should order:
A) Falcon Industries ERGO polymer rails (since the handgaurd is polymer)
or
B) Falcon Industries ERGO UMP aluminum rails (since they are stronger?)
what do you guys think? thanks :)
I think either will be fine, I'm using aluminum ones, but wouldn't feel that everyone else was cooler if I had polymer sections.
Army Chief
02-07-09, 05:11
Actually, if Stick did have the polymer rails, he would just take a few photos of them per his usual practice ... and then everyone would be opting for those in lieu of the aluminum. Sometimes, a good picture is worth a lot more than just a thousand words. ;)
I'm not sure there is a practical or functional difference when you're mounting the rail to a polymer handguard (reinforced or not), but conventional wisdom would seem to suggest that a metal to metal lockup would be the way to go when mounting accessories, so to me the question would be why not go with the aluminum?
AC

The slight rotational play doesn't concern me so much. Some Colt handguards do have this. What does concern me a little is the definite fore and aft play. I've tried the MOE handguards on three different Colt carbines and the handguards displayed a pronounced fore and aft play on every one of them.
I have a little more play with the MOE hand guards on my setup than the BCM M4s they replaced. Not really a big deal to me but worth noting. If you want 100% solid, get an Omega :D
No more play on mine than other handguards I've used, and I've been using the MOE handguards for a few months.

WHat light is that Stick?
I think Stick is running an Insight M3 or M3X light.
My MOE handguards were waiting for me when I went home for lunch today. I attached a 2" aluminum picatinny rail (for my Surefire M951XM07), snapped the handguards on my new Colt 6920, and was good to go within minutes. I have no movement at all on my Colt. I think I'm really going to like these handguards.
Here's my new set of Magpul MOE handguards on a S&W M&P15OR. As you can see, it fits this tall gas block set up quite well too!
I absolutely LOVE how the MOE handguards feel, grip and handle. Much improved, IMHO. I think they have a real winner on their hands!

Mine just came in this A.M. and I have to say that I love them. Mounted them to my Colt and there is very little play on them and they feel much better than the standard grips. Can't wait for my rails to come in. I am only mounting a VFG and a surefire to them but can't wait. When the OD come out I will be getting a set of those as well. Magpul made a Home Run with these IMHO.
I got mine a few days ago as well. I think they are great. My gun is pretty light and so far they are filling the role I need them to fill. I like the little hand stop on the front of the handguard because it gives me a repeatable place to run my hand to. I think that they feel great in the hand and they are very solid. Mine also have no wiggle on my LMT upper.
I have not yet mounted a light or VFG because I have not ordered a set of rails. I am not sure which rails to get but the Ergo Rail Systems seem to be the most popular. I think I am going to order 3 sets of two inch rails so that I can mount my stubby VFG, light, and one for a sling attachment point.
So far I am really enjoying these handguards and I look forward to running them in a 2 gun this coming weekend.
Great job Magpul as always. I am really liking the way you guys make your products and the roles that they fill. Keep the products coming.
Thanks Magpul!
-B:D
B, That is exactly what I am doing. I ordered Three of the shorty rails from ERGO Grip for the same purpose. I have the light mount already, and a VFG, and also ordered a QD mount and a Vickers 2-point padded sling. I have a three point, but, as I am left handed it kinda gets in the way.
Dutch,
Where did you order the rails from? Also which QD sling mount did you get? I am not very educated on the QD sling mounts or any railed sling mounts for that matter. I've always used my front sight sling swivel for my sling attachment.
Thanks,
-B:D

We're always looking for new ways to improve on existing products and explore the boundaries of new ideas. Thanks. Please, I promise I'll only buy Magpull furniture for my AR's from now on:D Bring them out in Mid Length:(
Have you guys been buying the aluminum or polymer rails? I have an aluminum one mounted on another rifle, but I I could get away with the polymer ones I would prefer getting them.
B, I ordered the rails from ergogrip.net and the QD is from Midwest Industries.
They fit beautifully, tight and everything I expect from MagPul - good value for $29 IMHO.
Installed in 5 mins and installed 2 small JP rails (x 300 light & DD QD sling)
Highly Recommended...
Have you guys been buying the aluminum or polymer rails? I have an aluminum one mounted on another rifle, but I I could get away with the polymer ones I would prefer getting them.
You should be fine with either.

Sounds good. I have a MOE handguard on the way and I'll just try it out with the one rail I have and see if I want to get a VFG and some more rails.
I just got my MOE handguard, and I'm pretty happy with it. I mounted a 4" aluminum ergo rail on the right side and stuck a g2 on the front. The setup works pretty good really. The light is far enough ahead to get a fairly comfortable hold on the handguard and the light is where I wanted it(out of the way of my sling). I am debating whether or not I would rather have a shorter rail since the exposed part of the rail does make holding it a little strange. On the other hand though it keeps my fingers closer to the light which is nice. I think magpul did a good job here and now all they need to do is make some rifle length ones.

I can't help but think that there will be mid-length and rifle-length variations on the way, but as with most things Magpul, this will involve a quiet progression. It would be nice to get periodic announcements on where we stand with such things, but we're a victim of our own impatience on that account, as most manufacturer's have long since learned not to let news slip until they are ready to ship.
Of course, Magpul could sell tactical hacky sacks for all the difference it would make, as I'm sure we would buy those, too. I have no actual use for such a thing, of course, but I'm sure it would be so cleverly designed, so well made and so reasonably priced that I would want one anyway ... probably in FDE or Foilage. :)

Just got my OD MOE Handguards that I ordered from Magpul in the mail this A.M. "Yippee For Me". They look great and fit very well on my colt.
Is there a wait on these when you order through magpul?
Mine took a few weeks, but as far as I know they are shipping regularly now.

Got my FDE handguards last Friday from Magpul.
Look great.
I picked up a S&W MP15MOE rifle this week, and the handguard is outstanding. Much more ergonomic than the box stock AR handguard.
Any eta on the FDE? I've had mine on order since June 14th(Magpul direct) with some other items. I got the ASAP, and the black MOE trigger guard is now on its way but no handguards or FDE trigger guard.
Thanks!
