I had a wild youth though mid 20s with plenty of run ins with the law but always treated them with respect and never got more than a cheap ticket.
I recall once me and some friends when we were about 16-17 got pulled over. LEO got us out took our beer and was content with that and ready to let us go. Then one LEO just glanced inside the car and the oldest of us who was 19 yelled at him to get away and he can't search the car without a warrant! LEO was like "oh yeah! Watch me" dove in a came up with a joint belonging to older dude, it was his car! He got nailed for possession an contributing to delinquency of minors! We were ready to walk and he had to bark with attitude! I actually loved he got nailed! From losing a 6 pack to $1000 fine in 1 minute! :D

I think he's just showing restraint because he KNOWS the video will be everywhere and even if he says "pretty please" and drops her on the soft grass it will still be promoted as "NAZI PIG COPS BRUTALIZE INNOCENT TEACHER FOR NOT SUPPORTING ISRAEL." I used to walk by the Aid Station on my way to S-2. Sometimes you would wade through the sick call line to get there.
I overheard a Soldier one time say "I can't have the Clap, I'm married." as I passed through the line.
So, you really can't be arrested because you're a Professor?
I was a certified LEO only because I had to have it to be a tactical medic on the SWAT team. So when I did that job I did some ride alongs and a little traffic stuff just to stay current. From time to time we did have one of those "you can't arrest me / give me a ticket because I'm name-your-special-tribe." So of course it made it that much sweeter.

More ride alongs I went on the less interested in becoming LEO and that was before every D head had a phone pointed at you in hopes you do something that makes them internet famous.

Well, I think it all comes down to the Prosecuters doesn't it?
I'm pretty sure alot of those charges are going to be misdemenors, and I mean, if you're sitting there arms linked chanting and are escorted away in cuffs that's what you deserve. Charges dropped, Naaah we will have you picking up trash along the Highway for 160 hrs.
Now if you fight,(No matter how awkwardly) the Cops, Assault someone, brake things or set fires, we're on to felonies.
And I would start the ball rolling at five years in prison and work from there.
They don't need to wear the scarlet letter forever, but I'm just saying these same kids have Biden (Really US) paying for their worthless degrees.
