If you use your Google-Fu you will see that "direct impingement" is the operating system that is used in M16 FOW. So, yes this AR-10 carbine is one. Do some serious research ito the AR-10 and ask questions before you plunk money down on one. Assuming that you can find one.

ArmaLite AR-10's and M15's are both direct impingment gas operated. Their AR-180 is piston operated.
