This looks pretty cool! Colt is going to build a M4 in 22lr. It is going to cost just over $500. I would buy one as a plinker.

This is all I could find too?

Looks worthy of consideration.

It's by Colt, so it has to be good!

I was just going to post pictures, seems everyone beat me to it. It does look good. For the price I think it would be worth it. I bought one of the MP5 clone 22lr and have been happy with it.

Are we sure these aren't going to be .22 caliber air rifles?

Looks cool and would make a fun toy but I think this is basically an licensed-copy airsoft gun slightly upgraded to handle .22lr. Not an actual Colt product.

Note the Umarex (http://www.umarexusa.com/) logo.

Still might be a fun plinking toy for less than the cost of a dedicated .22 upper. Who knows. Good first AR for the wee ones ;)

It does say "rimfire"? I'm thinking something along the lines of the GSG-5s...

Looks pretty nice, if the price stays in the $500 range I belive I'll preorder one when they start accepting orders which could happen as early as the 19th since SHOT is this week.

Looks neat. I wouldn't mind one if it used quality materials and was durable.

There is another post going on this:

It says dealer cost to be just over $500.

" Colt decided to partner with Umarex to produce these rifles, so we’re very enthusiastic about getting our hands on these and doing a complete product review in the near future. They have full metal bodies and all the features you’d find on a real Colt M4. The manual of arms is the same, so users will be able to supplement their AR15 training with these carbines and inexpensive 22lr ammo."

From the link above.

The ammo savings would make it well worth it IMO

.22 Tactical Rimfire? Damn, now I need to stock up on ANOTHER caliber....as if 5.56, 9mm and .22lr isnt enough:rolleyes:

Just having a hard time with $500, or will it be like $600 out the door since the $500 is a distributor price?

Empty mag bolt lock back?
Will they sell uppers?

Colt is not building these and there will be no slowing/reducing production of COLT weapons.
Colt has lent their name and markings to it and that's pretty much where the Colt partnership ends.
Umerex is building and importing the firearm at the Walther plant in Germany.

That's the name of the product; caliber is actually plain jane .22LR.

Something about this smells fishy.

A complete Spikes 22lr upper on a standard lower will run in the neighborhood of $900-1000, and that's a lower that can be swapped over to the real thing.

For those doing the math:
Spikes upper: $600
Stripped lower: $150
LPK: $75
Stock kit: $75

I'm just ballparking the numbers.

My point is, this seems too good to be true at the $500 price point. Words like "full metal body" don't lend the utmost confidence. That's what airsofters say. I don't care if it says Colt on the side.

The body will probably be cast instead of forged aluminum.

Components will probably be utter crap.

I dont think this is targeted towards the serious shooter. More like to the guy that buys something off of the bottom of the chart and is perfectly happy with buying an arguably inferior product.

I see these as toys more than a training tool. I hope to be proven wrong.

This isn't going to be like a Spike's gun. It's going to be like a GSG.

The question is...will it have parkerizing under the front sight base? :D

Cheap ass junk.

This gun goes into the same category as the GSG-5 an all those pink .22LRs I see at large chain sporting good stores.

All a bunch of waste.

They should have just released 6920s style guns with .22lr conversion kits already installed.

I have always been an advocate of the sub-caliber understudy guns for familiarization, training, and proficiency; presently own a M18 S&W and a Colt Conversion Unit. Someone must agree with me as SIG seems to have gotten on that bandwagon recently.

But even granting a quality unit it IS a matter of tradeoffs. In the case of my M4gery, I can do quite a bit of disciplined shooting and get a lot done with handloads for the cost of a really good .22 LR rifle or upper. Not to mention that to duplicate my M4gery I would have to pungle up for another ACOG...

Good concept. The practicality in this case remains to be seen.

And what is wrong with the GSG-5?

".22LR" should never be paired with "Tactical." Ever.

My reaction precisely. As soon as I saw that on the ad, I wrote the whole product off.

I guess they can do it, but if we take the GSG/MP5 analogy, I have a GSG and eventhough I really like it, and have only shot a MP5 a couple of times, I'm not sure it is that good of a trainer for an MP5. It might be an OK familiarization tool, but not for serious practice.

I agree, if it isn't set up the same as your standard stick, especially the trigger and sights, it probably isn't the best trainer.

For plinking, or adding a suppressor and whacking squirrels and maybe even that woodpecker that is trashing my trim, sounds like a good deal.

I'm seriously doubting you can take that upper and put in on your standard lower, just Colt being Colt. Maybe it will be a marketing tool for LEO and other sales. Throw one in for every 20 rifles or something and show how much money you'll save.

Maybe this is what Obama is going to arm his citizen army with ;)

.22lr isn't tactical, its tactifool.

A SW model 18 and a Colt Ace are built to the same standard and quality as their centerfire counterparts.
