Hello everyone, this is my first post just got my 1st AR put together. I have been reading stuff here for quite a while and have learned a tremendous amount here. I just purchased a new SOG Armory barreled reciever 16", 5.56, 1x9 twist from a gunshow recently and was wondering who actually manufactured it. I also have a Tactical Innovations lower and was wondering what you all thought aabout them (quality). I'll post ome pictures soon so you can tell me what you think. Thanks

I think they put them together themselves here in Houston. I can ask em this weekend at the gun show. Their stuff is ok, about the same as the Model 1 Sales stuff I guess.

Just curious, how much did the upper cost you, if you don't mind me asking?

I dont remember the exact price of the upper but I do know I bought the upper barreled receiver complete with the BCG, 6 pos stock, 3 30 rd CT Products magazines and a DPMS LPK all for $700 even. I also bought my stripped lower from a local gun shop for $139. So I have a total of $839 in my rifle with 3 mags, I thought I did pretty good considering the chances of getting anthing right now with all the "out of stock" companies on the net. I still need a rear sight though. I'm thinking of getting a ARMS 40L so add another $125 or so.

That's not bad. I had heard stories that SOG was gouging pretty bad, just wanted to see if there was any truth to them. I got a new ARMS 40L sitting in one of my parts bins that I'm never going to use. Sell it to you for less than you're going to find a new one anywhere. Let me know if you're interested.

At a gun show last week, SOG was selling 30 rnd Pmags for $25, and 20 rnd for $20. Not too bad, but not the best price.

Their prices are normally at retail or slightly above. They used to hand out coupons worth 10% off if you visit their store.

Does SOG Armory actually manufacture them? I didnt deal directly with SOG when I purchased my stuff, it was a independent person who had a large display and lots of new stuff from them. So I cant say as to whether or not SOG is good to deal with.

Depends what you mean by manufacture. I think they just put them together like most people do. I will ask and find out. Let us know how it shoots...

Yes, I was wondering who did the machining of the reciever, barrel and bolt. tia

Well I called SOG today and asked who actually machined the upper reciever and barrel and they told me it is made by Doublestar and the barrel is a Wilson. They are not very friendly to talk to by the way.

Thanks for the update. Hmm, they were probably busy and tired from packing up for the Houston show.

Someone else reported that a few months ago that he bought a aimpoint from them at a show, then took it to another dealer to get a mount. This dealer then informed him that it was a fake aimpoint from China. SOG took it back and refunded his money. Its good that they took it bad, but bad that they had it to begin with.

I went in SOG's store last week and they actually had a LMT 16" upper hanging on the wall. Pulled it down and almost choked, $799 for a stripped upper!!!
They do gouge quite a bit as well. At the gun shows before all the mass hoarding they were selling Pmags for $17 and you could walk 10' away and buy them for $14 all day long.
I usually just go in there to fondle items before I buy them online or somewhere else. The only way I would buy anything from them now is if something broke and I had to have it right away.
