The new rear sight from Paul Howe and XS Sights looks cool to me. Sort of an evolution of the "shooting out of the notch" that I saw in Magpul's video and read about in Green Eyes and Black Rifles.

It's already on their webpage, but I first saw it in one of the SHOT Show links

Daniel Defense complete M4 carbines were really nice, extended rail runs past the FSB, rear BUIS by DD, MOE buttstock, curved trigger guard, beveled mag well and other things I can't remember. I pre ordered one and so did my buddy.

I mostly did a big loop to figure out where stuff is, and will get specific tomorrow and Sat morning.

CTC has two new Glock grips: the Laserguard that is like the LCP thing, and new Lasergrips which are similar to the ones they make for the XD. The Lasergrip also has a master power switch, unlike the previous Glock Lasergrip. I handled it in person for the first time today and it felt pretty good. You can definitely feel it, but it's not bad.

CTC also has a new VFG with integrated light & laser which are independently operable.

Lasermax had a prototype M&P guide rod laser on display and the VFG they're making for Colt.

Got to see the new S&W mid-length M&P15, their piston M&P15, and their .22 M&P15 trainer.

I also got to meet Travis and Chris from Magpul Dynamics finally, which was great.

Played with the XD-M "Combat Trigger Job" from Springfield's shop ... have to say I much prefer the stock trigger. The "Combat Trigger Job" was much lighter but spongy feeling with an extremely weak reset.

Handled the new "Gen 4" Glock 22 (RTF or whatever they're calling it). The grip texture is good but I doubt it's really going to make a difference for most. Its design will be uncomfortable for certain people whose hands are just the wrong size ... didn't affect me but one of the guys I know at Glock said he doesn't like to shoot it. The new slide serrations suck.

Met with H&K and got to play with the civi 416 a bit. It's heavy. Found out the first 1,000 US-built HK45's are in the warehouse ready to ship and that more are on the production line. The first US-built HK45C's should show up before mid-year.

Insight Technology has a new light/laser combo intended for compact guns that (with the right switching) should work great as a 12 o'clock light on an AR. They also now (finally) have handheld flashlights that are programmable so you can choose whether you want strobe or solid light as the default action when you press the tailcap. No change on the Procyon at the moment in terms of switching; there is also a new Procyon with built-in laser.

Beretta has significantly updated the TRG-22/TRG-42 with lots of input from one of the most talented and respected guys in the long-long-range sniping community. Nothing new in the world of Beretta pistols, though. One of their LE people told me they get more calls asking for the discontinued Vertec than anything else.

And there may be one or two new sources for properly designed appendix holsters within the next few months.

Weight on the 416 civie felt about on par with the weight of the 10.5 416 I had in Iraq, which is saying something. I don't know if it's the rail system or the barrel, but that's a fairly hefty carbine. Priced reasonably, I'll be buying one. The SCAR civie is much lighter, but given the silly dealer packaging options FNH has, I don't see the price dropping much below $2500.

Thanks for the update Todd. Would anything prevent the use of the smaller Laserguard on a G19 instead of a G26?

If you can convince someone to make a leather Looper, I want it. Now.

Piston M&P15 what what what?

Any news on itty bitty lights like an E1B or a Novatac EDC?

And for Pete's sake, someone go over to the RRA booth and tell them to start making 1911s again. Since I sold mine I'm going nuts wanting a new one. With a Heinie magwell. And LG-401s.

I'm at a bit of a loss too. It doesn't look like it's much shorter than a standard stock, but more complicated.

From the looks of it it has a flash suppressor though, so even that's right out in its current configuration.

Pop a brake on there (if it isn't already a brake), and it would be good to go though.

It collapses AND folds. There is still a short stub of a buffer tube (the non-folding part) since the gun uses a DI gas system instead of a piston.

Good photos at the bottom of the page of an updated A2 LED Aviator and LX2 Lumamax. I'm glad they redesigned the pocket clips on those lights. I could see buying an LX2 or A2 to augment or maybe even replace my E1B. Especially since the E2D LED Defenders kept the crazy scallops and bad pocket clip when it got an LED conversion.

Meh, so far the only thing I've seen that is really blowing my skirt up is the new sling arrangement which Costa demonstrated.

The EOTech seems to be a direct response to the T1. Time will tell if it still suffers from the typical EOTech follies. Just off the bat the fact that it uses CR123 batteries, while cool, indicates it probably has rather poor battery life.

before anyone gets in a tiffy about the EMAG -- it is just basically a PMAG made for non-AR guns, mostly European (hence the E), that have different magwells than ARs. Also works in ARs of course.

Also, they showed a 308 (DPMS/KAC type) PMAG for MSRP of $19.95

What has me interested is how the gun works. Maybe along the lines of an FAL? Odd thing is that I didn't see a bolt catch. One thing I like about it is that it looks like it would be possible to have the sights closer to the barrel(I think think of one very limited use for that, but I wouldn't mind it). Apparently Ares Defense is the one behind this.

Any pics of the new Glocks?

There is one floating around here somewhere. The slide serrations, by glock's own admittance, are "for aesthetic purposes" only. Todd and I are in agreement, they aren't conducive to the sort of progress some might expect. The grip is interesting. It's rough and gritty. A departure from the rubberized "lay z boy" type grips I've seen lately. I liked it personally.

Magpul's booth was smaller than I expected but cool non the less. They showed off their sling and plate which will be available in a few weeks as well as the flip up sights. They had the masada/acr on display. Bushmaster, from what I saw, did not.

Todd showed me around a bit and discussed some options concerning a new duty piece. Also helped me snag some goods for T&E. If you guys have a chance to meet Todd, I suggest you take it. We couldn't get 10 ft without someone knowing him.

Went to Knights open house. Wasn't what I was expecting but still very cool. The man has a collection like no other I've seen. To say he collects guns wouldn't even scratch the clear coat on the surface. Met Rob_S at Knights. They were taking 30 people or so at a time in tour groups and I happened to see this bearded guy wearing a yellow visor with a "I hate the chart and everything it stands for" shirt. My keen detective skills led me to the assumption that it was Rob. The name badge helped a little. Good conversation.

The show, for a first timer, was overwhelming. You think you've seen a good bit of it in 5 hours then you turn the corner and see that you have at least double that left to see. You go through this process many times. I'll be going back tomorrow in somewhat of panic mode because I have much left I want to see and doubt I'll get it all in tomorrow. I don't know how this compares to prior shows but by my estimation... It's big.

A side note. When I registered for the show and saw the price for admission, I couldn't believe how cheap it was. When I ordered 2 club sandwiches and 2 bottles of water for my wife and I, and it came to $27........................

I'll say this in closing: I consider myself to have a firm grasp on the general and even specific subjects concerning firearms and/or tactical gear. Until I went to shot show.... Some of the guys there know so much it's simply astounding. Sometimes you have to weed through the BS stories but that was rare. Everyone I ran into was professional, courteous, and very generous with the knowledge. I was impressed.

1 minor bone of contention. And I'm sure I'm going to catch a metric ton of shit for this, especially when I see Todd tomorrow..... The chics.... while some were VERY pretty.... Know a god damn thing or 2 about the product your flashing your melons for. If you don't, stand to the side and just look pretty don't come up and engage me in conversation then when I ask (as a simply conversation filler) "is this a Micro T1? and you say..... ummmm I don't know... uhhhhhh.... maybe....... heheheh......ummmm. HEY RICHARD?! this man has a question... he ummm...... wants to know.... what was it sir?.....

I got this a few times today. Nothing wrong with pretty ladies and guns at all. Just..... read a damn brochure or something before you step out on the floor.

If I remember correctly, the G22 is either available now, or will be very soon. As in this month or next. They didn't have dates, or at least that they would share, concerning other models. I'll say this about glock; they were very honest concerning their products. Was refreshing to hear/see.

Indeed. I will say though that it was very informative. They were all helpful and courteous. Met Mr. Kassner from KBI today and it was a pleasure. They were taking 30 people or so at a time in tour groups and I happened to see this bearded guy wearing a yellow visor with a "I hate the chart and everything it stands for" shirt. My keen detective skills led me to the assumption that it was Rob. The name badge helped a little.

I've not yet had occasion to meet Rob, but always had the quiet impression that he might be fairly easy to find in a crowd. My keen detective skills ... priceless. LOL

Met Rob S at the LTW booth, he even had his tactical yellow visor on.

I agree with the gentleman's post about his feeling on the new glock's serration. It's purely aesthetic. The chevron points the wrong way. It offered to traction whatsoever, the slide actually slipped while I was trying to cycle the slide.

Magpul Masada/Bushmaster ACR: I gave up on that after waiting two years. Bushmaster didn't even have one on display in their military/LE booth nor their regular general gun area booth. A rep told me that it will be available to the mil./LE at the end of the year and maybe 2010 for civilians.
There was one Masada on display at the Magpul booth, but it wasn't for handling. It was actually plastic tie wrapped down to the display rack. I asked the Magpul rep and he was talking like it was some kind of top secret thing that fell out of a UFO. He said due to their licensing agreement with another manufacturer, he couldn't discuss the rifle. BS

Here is the Sig 380, next to the picture of the Colt that another member posted:

I couldn't make it over to SHOT due to "Extreme Female Issues".

Yes, DD, BFG and LAV was my first destination upon arrival. DD's main theme is their M4 carbine. My buddy and I each bought a gun within 30 minutes of my arrival.

Here's a whole thread on the gun, it's that nice.

Does anyone have the skinny on where SHOT is going to be held next year? I'm getting conflicting information. Some say it's back in Orlando next year and I hear some saying it's going back to Vegas.

Since I was left holding passes that I couldn't use this year, I'm trying to plan for next year.

Thanks.......

Vegas. It was suppose to be in Vegas this year, but due to construction not being completed, it was back in Orlando. I think plans are for all future SHOT shows will be in Vegas.

That is what I heard. If next year's show doesn't coincide with the super bowl, I'll be there. There's no way I'm going to be around that nfl circus of thugs.

Yeah, it's contracted to be held in Vegas for the next 5 years.

I've been to both places, and I'll take Vegas any day on the basis of not having nearly as many octogenarians and Japanese tourists to contend with on the roads. Everybody in Florida seems to drive like they're always looking for an address.

I like the new Sig P238 380 too for some strange reason and the tiny Eotech looks to be a really good idea.

I heard next 10 years in vegas fwiw. I'd be happy if we were still having a shot show in 10 years.

Magpul's b/u sights, asap, and sling will be my next purchases. Hope to run them through the paces and see how they hold up. As with most if not all things magpul, I'm sure it will do great.

Massoud is .308

That Trijicon 1-4x is great, but the really cool part about it is that it has an integrated shroud that you can adjust for ambient light. No more tape over the light gathering portion.

Ditto on the Trijicon 1x4's. Excellent optic. Get a chance to take a look through their new thermal optic? They teamed up with FLIR Systems and it mates with the ACOG platform. Fantastic imaging....I was very impressed.....coolest optic at the show IMO.

Just got back from Shot. Phew! Glad that mess is over.

I personally thought that the show was missing something. Most likely because of the fact that no manufacturer wants to spend any money to start up a new weapon system. :(

I ordered just about 100 of everything that goes bang (or feels like I did).

I also bit the bullet & spent the $14K in order to get the opportunity to buy 3 SCAR's.

The Trijicon 1-4 was fanstastic as was their new ruggedized sights.

As always I ran into old friends, made new friends and did my best to stay out of trouble.

You'll sell them. Some kids need to be the first on the block etc. I don't believe the part about you staying out of trouble, though.

All in all, I dropped $20k at FN JUST so I could throw all the other guns away and get the SCAR. So I figure each SCAR cost me a little over $6K.

Me get into trouble??? You MUST be mistaking me for Dinger.

LWRC is making them, or at least designing them. They have an interesting swiveling dual throw-arm rail interface (arms are on the opposite side) that looks like it pretty well eliminates the possibility of the arms getting snagged on gear in the same way LaRue and ARMS mounts, however good they are, still do. There's a 7.62 version, as pictured, and a 5.56 version.

That dial you see is exactly what it looks like, a ranging feature. I think I remember the rep saying that it goes to 500m, though I'm not 100% on that (info overload!). Can't remember if he said that it was fitted for anything besides the T-1 at this point, but they are developing others.

Shot officials should make it a point of order, to have it on the same weekend as the AVN convention (which was last weekend).;)

Speaking of Japanese tourists...

The only time I've been to Vegas, I kept almost getting run over by the "trains" of Japanese tourists moving through the casinos...they'd have one leader at the front, and EVERYBODY would follow him...and they didn't stop for anybody!

Anyone get a chance to check out the Trijicon/FLIR Systems thermal optic?

Bad ass. It mates with the ACOG line and produces really clear, vibrant imaging. By far the coolest optic there IMO. I believe its only about $13k. :p

The SCAR....did anyone really check out the turd of a stock on that gun? Im sure the weapon is solid...but the stock, I thought, was flimsy crap.

Anyway, it was a good trip.
