Borrowed the above picture from the Beretta forum. This is one of Beretta's display items from the SHOT Show.

What was the initial justification for a steel frame for Navy service? Purely durability?

I'm glad the Brigadier slide is making a comeback.

Is the added weight for competition?

Damn, now that's an answer.

Sweet, a sixteen shot 9mm that can also crush skulls.

Just a SWAG. I'd like to know the full/true story behind this gun.

While RAM could be on to something, NSW never complained about a problem with the aluminum/stainless mating in their P226's. USCG raised the possible issue when they bought 15,000 SIG P229R's but they haven't had widespread corrosion problems, either.

My guess is that the Navy wanted an emergency back up boat anchor.

I've got no idea when that gun was produced, but it had to be relatively recent. The special Navy prototypes I'm aware of are a couple decades old and had aluminum frames.

None of the NSW people I've dealt with had any interest in a heavier handgun. I know quite a few who were carrying P228's instead of P226's just to save a couple ounces weight when kitted out.

I've always liked the Beretta 92 series. I'd love to have that gun. Steel frame or not. I bet it is a pleasure to shoot.

My thoughts were that this gun could have been made as a corrosion test control sample to prove that there would be no statistical difference in corrosion between the AL/Steel and the Steel/Steel guns, prior to their adoption.

Although I would think that the Navy has enough corrosion prevention experience that that comparison could have been easily made via analysis, instead of testing.

Making sure it will sink if it's dropped overboard. :D

Saves the bulk and expense of attaching a sacrificial anode

The sign next to the pistol says "Prototype". Does anyone know if the Navy actually bought this gun?

I would be VERY surprised if the Navy went with a heavier M9. The beefed up slide, I can see, the steel frame, not so much...

I'm still waiting for the 92 "Mafia" edition to come out.

I love the 92FS. I have the 92FS INOX and it is great. I know there are quite a few that hate the M9 but I am so accurate with it and I love the grip. Most people that dislike the gun complain about the grip because they have girl hands.:D

The article on berettaforum.net said two were made and I believe it was years ago at that.
