This works for any rifle, not just KAC rifles.

Knight's Armament BulletFlight is a ballistic computer that provides quick solutions in the field. Unlike other apps, BulletFlight does not output information in table format. What it does do is dynamically give you the solution you need now to make that shot. Current weather conditions can be input, as well as angles to the target as measured by the built-in accelerometer provides highly detailed solutions out to 2000 meters. Your weapon profile includes your scope MOA per click, and hence when you provide a range to the target, the app will simply say how many clicks you need to change the scope by for that range and wind speed.

Environmental calculations are based on the Sierra Bullets(tm) model as detailed in their external ballistics literature. Up to five ballistic coefficients with corresponding velocity thresholds may be used for each profile. The built-in help page includes live links to online resources for BC values.

Three built-in profiles for the Army's M110 semi-automatic precision rifle, the 14.5 inch SR16 rifle, and the KAC PDW allow you to get started quickly. You may alter these profiles, or add new ones.

Me too!! lol

I can't justify buying another phone and the plan that goes along with it, so I'm most likely going to get an ipod touch. This app will work just fine on that as well.

And it will go well with my new SR15 rifle! :D

Any info on the mount?

rsilvers

KAC said the mount was to get initial feedback before doing the production version and that the idea is to make it, along with an iPod Touch and the app, part of the M110 kit.

The concept is promising...not sure that I would want to keep the Ipod on the gun during firing, but would be nice for storage and transport.

The Picatinney mount begs the question just how shock-resistant is the iPhone.

It's good to see applications like this, though this one is still a bit on the expensive side, given that there is already a very decent ballistic app in the iStore for considerably less. I'll probably let the pricing stabilize a bit before buying.

And here's what the pathetic British press has to say about it...

Note that version 1.1.0, already submitted to Apple, fixes a few known problems. Basically the 'simple calculate' screen gives incorrect data. That screen is not something I think many would use so you won't mind waiting for the bug fix to appear. Funny thing is three people on AR15 only saw that wheel and incorrectly assume you cannot input range directly. You can -- just look at the full compute screen.

Am I wrong in assuming that the coupons are for itunes?? If so, where are they entered? The only option I had was to buy and have it charged to my credit card. Not that I am objectionable to that.

Just wondering about the coupons.

Thanks!

One article claims it was in poor taste to release it on inauguration day. Even the most basic fact checking would see it was released on Dec 22nd and announced at the Shot Show last week. It was the media that chose to do a story of it at that time.

Dang - I tried to use one of the coupons, and it says "US customers only" :(

I was hoping to try out the temperature correction in the frigid Canadian winters. :D Ahh well - $12.99 ain't so bad. I'll likely buy it anyway and play around with it. I have a precision .308 and .223 that I'd like to try at some longer ranges. I know one guy with it already, and he indicated the outputs of the program were VERY close to his known come-ups.

Now I need an otterbox for my iPod Touch....

Okay, I just bought the app... however, only v1.0 is available?

I'm hoping updates are free... does the US store already have 1.1? Canada does NOT. I'm a little bummed... :(

I've been wanting to do a ballistic app... Dang, yet another great idea already done ;)

One of these days I will figure out some new untouched app to do for the iPhone :D

Just so your aware, the Ipod Touch needs to get on a wireless network to access the internet, while the Iphone can access the internet as a part of the phones plan. Not sure how the program works, but if you need to get online when you are wanting to use it, this may cause a problem.

Yup. I'm squared away on the wireless network as opposed to the cell phone plan, thanks.

Not sure about the 'net access needed to run the app, but I'm guessing the new version with gps needs access.

I'm also guessing that basic use doesn't need access.... But it's just a guess.

Bit the bullet and bought it this morning. Got version 1.1 so I am hoping that the updates are free, atleast the 1.x increments. I like the simplicity of the interface, but would love to see a built in bullet library rather than having to manually enter stuff I as you develop loads. I haven't really played with it too much but it definitely has potential.

Sweet. Had a chance to play with it some this afternoon and tinker with some of the settings. I have to admit that my first impression was way off. At first, given how simple it looked I thought is was way overpriced, but after playing around with it a bit, the simple look is deceiving and I am not unhappy with paying $12. The simplicity of the interface is awesome. Being able to enter zero environmental conditions and then having the ability to enter current factors at the time of the shot is great. Havent had a chance to build up some customized loads for my SPR or bolt gun, but will do that ASAFP. Cudos on the development effort.

You may want to consider making the scope settings toggle between MOA or mRad instead of having to remember the .344 MOA.

Anyway, great job. I wonder how many panties got bunched up at Apple when they saw the ballistics type apps show up at the store.

A lot of them. Especially in the UK and Aus.

rsilvers
02-11-09, 21:41
Someone on AR15 said it was too simple and claimed you could not enter in your actual range. He did not even look at the full compute screen and see all of the fields. It is simple to use because it is for people in the field, but it is not low on features or ability. KAC will list all of the features soon.

The next major upgrade comes out next week. It has a lot of new stuff. It is free for existing users.

It should work on the iPod Touch unless it's a web APP

Not a sniper, but wouldn't the screen act as a big illuminator for the body of the sniper?
