Wow! The pics of you guys holding the PDW do a great job of showing just how small that thing really is. The standalone pics don't do it justice in that regard.

It certainly sounds like an impressive little weapon. I hope KAC sells a ton of them. :)

Thanks for the great pics!

Cal. 6x35?

WTH is that?

IIRC, The 6x35mm round is a proprietary round designed by KAC for the PDW. AFAIK, no other weapon on the market utilizes this round. I would love to own a PDW if KAC would ever sell a civilian S/A model, however I doubt that will ever materialize. Also I have no idea who the hell is actually making ammo for it. I read a Defense Review article on the PDW that had photos of some custom ammo Hornady had made in 6x35mm, but other than that I've never seen any.

Did they have to put that "Special Forces" on there? Since SF has never and will most likely never use said pistol and said pistol has not and will not receive SF's endorsement, I think that's pretty moronic. I still have forgiven Ed Brown for their "Special Forces" pistol.

RogerinTPA

Putting SF or Tactical or any trashy term like that on such a fine weapon is blasphemous! A gimmicky term used to attract ignorant wanna be's who wish to be tacticool and sell product. Sadly it works... If they can offer it with a "Blank" slide, I'd buy one.

Any release date for their Fortis pistol?

Vltor says '6-12 months' just to be sure - they don't want to repeat the mistakes of previous Bren Ten revivers and end up not meeting dates and/or rushing the gun to meet such.

Subject Change: What's the proposed price in the Fortis?

They've said 'mid range 1911' so I'd guess somewhere around Kimber/Springfield 'Loaded'.. 900-1100?

Did they have to put that "Special Forces" on there? Since SF has never and will most likely never use said pistol and said pistol has not and will not receive SF's endorsement, I think that's pretty moronic. I still have forgiven Ed Brown for their "Special Forces" pistol.

It's only because the Bren Ten came in a model called 'Special Forces'.

KAC Triple Tap. It is a .gov item only right now, they are frighfully expensive to build, and thus expensive to buy.
Initally was from the SR25 BattleRifle, and designed as a control item, then scaled into 5.56mm as a sacrificial baffle to designed to enhance the life of suppressors.

Its a great setup, but unless we can descrease the cost of manufacture - I don't see a large public market.

The Fortis resurrection of the Bren Ten looks great. I wanted one myself but I think it may be too late for obvious reasons unfortunately. And a couple of design decisions made by Vltor are mistakes in my opinion.

I have two observations on the design. The first being the scalloping at the front of the frame probably to lighten it. The back of the frame seems thick enough for the slide stop area. It detracts from the way that particular designs looks originally (CZ 75 clone). I would also think the weight up front is needed for the 10mm!

Another area is the lack of a "beavertail" rear back strap. It is just a stub like someone decided to chop it off without thinkiing of the possibility of the web of the firer's hand being bitten - hammer bite.

All the folks at Vltor needed to do was to look at the EAA clones like the Elite Match which has a substantial frame and a very nice "bervertail" on it. Even the CZ 75B SA and SP-01s now have this design on their cast steel frames. This to me is a step backwards for the Fortis design.

Just my observations and opinions. My intent is not to start an argument.

Exactly. If they changed the exterior design of it it'd be pointless, people might as well just buy a Witness 10 mm then.

They might do modified versions later on but the first ones to roll out will look like the Bren Ten and that's kinda their whole mission statement.

Nice pics, and most all of the KAC stuff looks great.
However, I was a bit disappointed to see that huge Micro T-1 lever. I think the ejection port side of the T-1 mount looks kick ass, and IF it looked more like that on BOTH sides of the gun, I'd be ALL OVER these mounts. However, that huge lever is outrageous, IMHO. Aside from the cosmetics (which is the main thing for me, as I already know it's got KAC quality and reliability), I would be afraid that huge lever would get caught on my gear on my chest... Maybe, maybe not.
Any chance of getting that lever cut down a bit/modified before they hit the streets :D Would be SO nice!
Either way, the KAC products are most impressive, and I just wish we could get our hands on more of them... PDW rocks, and would be a FUN little gun, especially suppressed! BTW, did I hear "DOUBLE piston" system?? I'd love to get a look at those inner workings!

That Jessica is pretty hot, both for her god given looks and for her ability to shoot, an ability that most women (especially hot young ones) do not tend to over indulge in.

Where I lost her was in killing the Zebra. Its a horse, you don't eat a horse unless your starving to death or in Bulgaria...where I have eaten horse. I see that as hunting it... just because you have yet to kill one of those. Hunt game animals, not a damn horse. Fail.

Note:
I was in Bulgaria doing a rare and unusual job and had been there for 3.5 weeks and barely had any meat to eat. As a gift, when we were leaving, the client set up a dinner at a castle. When our team walked into the room there was a table about 50 feet long and 12 or so feet wide with a horse on a silver platter about as big as an F-150 up on that table. Some did not eat it, I ate a bit. The customer was being insulted that we were not extatic over the offering of meat so those of us that did eat it played it up to be greatest thing we had ever had or seen. The others claimed religion prevented them eating the horse.

What is it about the SCAR platform that has everyone so geeked up? I understand the SOCOM thing but other than that, I am having a difficult time seeing it. I read thread after thread on this and other forums about people being fired up about the SCAR being released to the public, while to me, it just looks and feels like a bulky, plasticy thing. Admittedly I have never had the chance to shoot one but ergonomically, it does not feel anywhere near as good as the AR platform to me. In addition, while it may end up being the "official" SOCOM platform, those guys carry what they want most of the time anyways, so how often actual teams are carrying the SCAR down the road remains to be seen.

As a disclaimer, this is not a FNH hate-fest. I have an FNH SLP shotgun that I absolutely love, and while the m249 sucks, the m240 kicks ass. I have also heard very good things about their bolt action rifles.

So, anyone here who can't wait for the SCAR to be released? If so, mind sharing your reasoning? I'm not hating here, just curious I guess...

Thanks

I noticed in this photo that she has some type of device for speeding up the change from 1.1x to 4x on the short-dot. Seen a lot of 3-gunners with these, but have never seen them for sale anywhere. I'd be looking for one that's black and significantly shorter, but does anyone know where these might be sold? I'd be looking for one for a NightForce NXS 1-4x24.

It's not exactly fair to compare Jessie to the girls some companies hire as window dressing to lure morons into their booths at SHOT. She was the 2008 Ladies Steel Challenge champ; USPSA Limited, Limited 10, and Multi-Gun Ladies Champ; as well as the Western 3-Gun Ladies Champ.

You're right, she is prettier.

Mega Machine Shop has let a few pre-release models slip out of their new MTS-300 (Monolithic Tactical System). Its a true one piece, there are no rails that come off. More pictures will be posted in a bit, I've got an article coming out in Military Times about it.

Frank Castle
01-14-10, 10:30
Nevermind. Found the answer on Mega's Website. Proprietary Barrel Nut BUT Std Barrels. This could be very promising. I also like the fact that they went with 7075 Vs 6061- I don't think strength or flexing will be an issue. Hopefully the barrel nut will be sufficiently designed/engineered and user friendly. Looking forward to more photos and details from SHOT.

Without actually seeing the product, it appears from the pictures that the tool could not fit over even the lowest profile gas blocks and would therefore limit the user to barrel assemblies with an exposed gasblock or FSB? This would also necessitate removal of the same gasblock or FSB before one could remove the barrel. For these reasons, the MRP and VLTOR designs better meet my needs, but I applaud their innovative thinking and continued development of the AR platform.

Armati
01-15-10, 08:28
That's cool and all...

But, I have yet to see a rail system in military service that will not need to be replace at some point. If your stick only goes from range bag to range mat you should be ok.

Fast roping, moving thru buildings, CQB, and things banging around in trucks can raise hell with rails. Not to mention the Mongo operator who thinks more is more when touring things down on the rail.

Not a flame, just an observation.

Magsz

Stick,

Any chance you can take a picture of the rail profile? I would love to see it from the front to get an idea of how wide/tall it is.

tirod
01-15-10, 09:06
Stop me if I'm overthinking this - With the announcement of the M4A1 barrel as issue now, and seeing a picitinny mounted M203 -

Are we seeing the end of the barrel mounted versions? No barrel cuts (?) means something besides better heat resistance in a Colt test cell.

Mounting the M203 on a rail would imply a solid attachment.

Stretching further, would that also imply a future COTS requirement for a bottom rail? Barrel cuts were, even tho most rifles and carbines didn't get the launcher.

I don't see the 40mm going away, therefore some accomodations have to be made - and we all will have to live with them to some degree.

can you install a low profile gas block inside the rail, since you can't install the barrel with the gas block already attached?
it's nice to have a rifle-length rail with mid or carbine gas system inside. i'm assuming that if you do, you'll have to drill some holes in the handguard for set screw or pin access.

You have to register in order to download the catalog .pdfs. The main benefit of the reduced size of the newest model of MBUS is that they can now fit underneath magnified optics, which the original MBUS could not do (in most cases I'm aware of, including my NF 2.4-10X24).

I knew these were too big before they even came out and they can't compete against Troy.

Yeah, I went from Troy rear BUIS, to MBUS, to KAC.... I'm now back to Troy. They are hands down the best folding BUIS out there IMHO. I really liked my KAC BUIS, both types, but I couldn't stand not having both apertures available! The smaller 600m peep sight is too slow on target at closer ranges, and the larger aperture 300m sight is hard as hell to BZO without the plastic peep insert. So I'm back to Troys and happy as can be!

However, I will say that the MBUS is the best BUIS out there right now for the money, and the people buying them most likely don't have $1,000-$2,000 glass mounted on their guns anyways, so it fills plenty of shooters' roles out there I think. Especially KISS carbines.

Semper Fi,

-Paul

Thanks you kindly for the information - much appreciated. Did they give any info regrading a release date for the MOE Middy handguards? I'd love to order two sets of those.

I believe those photos of SHOT 2010 yet to be posted might answer the question. It is rumored, but the first thing is to release an actual working versionin 5.56.

this is a different price from what was posted on Bushmasters website. $2100 is the dealer pricing so more for the street price

How wide is that MMS? Like compared to a LaRue or such, or the LMT MRP. The Vltor is a lot wider than the MRP, how does this one compare? Maybe a shot from the front.

Anybody have a chance yet to visit the Vltor booth at SHOT?

They promised to have the new Fortis/Bren Ten there.

And I have been really wanting a 308 battle rifle......I wonder what it will run to get one. I hope it has a 18" barrel.

I think the initial offering is 16" and it is advertised on LMT's site for $2500.

Isn't that the beauty of the whole system? As long as barrels are available they are easy to swap around... The key word "available"!

Good to see the left side with ambi-controls.

Hopefully we'll get the real details on barrel twist as well - I've seen several different twists quoted....
