View Full Version : Best way to couple P mags?

I have a bud that is required to carry two mags at once on the rifle.

A ready mag or ready mod is not an option but he wants to use pmags.

What is the mag coupler out there for them so far?

I've read somewhere that Arredondo coupler can be modified very easily to fit PMAGs...just a bit of trimming on the inside.

also, Springer Precision is working on a PMag coupler:

Your friend sounds like the situation my old department was in. We wanted to carry 2 20 round Pmags on the rifle in the cars. We used 20's because the 30s were to long and they would hit crap in the rack. What I ended up doing was using the mag cinch by Buffer Tech. When using the mag cinch it did require some modification to the mag or the cinch. I chose to grind off a little off of one of the ribs on the pmag. It was very easy to do if you take your time and did not change reliability or strength of the pmag. Once done and if you used the mag cinch properly it was a very solid mount, use more loctite then they give you though. I tested it by literally kicking the crap out of it for several days on the range to see if it would loosen, it held up pretty well.

We thought about using the redi mag and someday will or switch to a better clamp system that is made for pmags once it is out. The cost difference between the redi mag and the mag cinch was significant though for a small PD budget. Magpul said they were thinking about a clamp that would clamp a 20 and a 30 together but haven't heard much more on that. Mag cinch isn't my first choice in clamps but they have held up very well in the patrol cars. I am at a new PD now and we use USGI 20 rounders because we have at least 100 of them courtesy of uncle sam so we use what's free. Eventually I would like to see use go to pmags but until we break all of ours I don't think our chief will go for it.

Those look like they could be sweet.

You could use the time honored "spacer and some duct tape" method.

I have one of those old gunshow mag couplers that are adjustable for different types of magazines that works for Pmags just fine.

Why not bypass the coupler and use a stock mounted Mag pouch???

Something like the Blackhawk Tactical AR-15 Collapsible Stock Mag Pouch (20 -25 USD)

somehow a spacer and duct tape ain't going to cut it for the job at hand.

A stock mag pouch is not only gay but very slow too. This guy is not some soldier in camp victory, he may actually need
that other mag quick fast and in a hurry.

what brand would the be Mr wilson??

One porblem with that as I can see is that the front attachment loop may interfere with the charging handle when the stock is collapsed. I'm not sure if the blackhawk would, but the one I got from spec-ops did. It seemed like you had to have the stock at least halfway out to be able to use the charging handle. This issue pretty much killed the idea of using a stock pouch on an m4 stock. Now it might work with fine with an A2 stock, but at the end of the day I would guess a redi mag or clamped mags would be much better.

I use a single Mag-Cinch and a whole lotta duct tape. It ugly as hell but works 100%. I use it in competition. For stages that are over 31 rounds and I can't find a good place to do a reload I typically use my 47 round Nordic/PMAG. If I'll be having to go prone I use this coupled set of PMAGs.

Short of a redi mag, you can pick any of the coupler systems out there, mag cinch seemed the best to me...but dont play well with pmags out of the box.

There are the clamp style ones, and you may find they work great out of the box.
But just because duct tape is ugly, doesn't mean it doesn't work.

I made one for a friend once using half a mag that I dremeled (had broken lips) with double sided tape on both sides as a spacer...then I used 3 strips of 1" duct tape to secure them further while they were held in tight with a c- clamp.

You can use any material as a spacer---wood---hockey puck cut up--I was just using what I had on hand. My father installs windows for a living so I can get rolls of really good double sided tape on the cheap.

If you're interested enough to see pics...I could make another one.

spec ops offer a M4 stock pouch that wont interfere with the charging handle since it sits is a vertical position

Since so many like the option of doing this, I am was a bit surprised that Magpul did not do something along the lines of the G36 mags that could be snapped together. Unless there was a patent thing preventing it.

I think mine can do do that in addition to mounting it horizontally. I have never tried it since the gun it was on had the stock changed to an A2 stock(bushy dissipator + m4 stock= poorly balanced gun). I may have to try it on one of my other guns though when I get some time.

BTW, Sig mags a factory boxed dual mag - intended for the sig556 but works fine in ARs, they're kinda pricey but come with the coupler in the box with 2 mags.

I think about $50 - we have abotu 5 of these in the shop in the back I think.

I believe he may be referring to these;

I was also told by a booth guy at a show that they work for Pmags.

I used a Blackhawk mag pouch on my collapsible stock until I found out my stock needed to be fully extended to operate the charging handle. The mag pouch went immediately. I eventually traded my collapsible stock for a fixed stock and added another mag pouch to the gun. This added weight but I liked the full stock.
