View Full Version : So, I had these files--
Decided to add some bite on the PRI, not perfect, but it sure does help! The stock smooth finish is slick.
Did the FSB a week or so ago. Used a hacksaw and a file to clean it up. Refinish was flat black Aluma-Hyde II. Did this is prep for a NF 1-4 one day.

Manual file? Or a dremel? Did you use one of those polisher wheels to take the real sharp "razor" edges down, or did you just file it a little to chamfer the edges?
Let me know how it works....do you shoot with gloves?

Just some old manual files, got a set from London Bridge Trading eons ago. No polish other than a swipe of sand cloth, and normally no gloves unless it's cold. I worked it a bit in the house, should try it this week or next on the range. It helps alot for me.
That FSB looks great. How long did it take you to do?

Thanks, although I didn't time it, I guess about an hour-I'm slow
Are you planning on putting a longer rail on as well? is that a DD rail? I've thought about doing this to one of my BCM uppers.

That's a Troy 9" I do have on order some pieces that will allow me to make another one. That one will have a Troy 10" and a Vltor block that will be pinned. I used what was on hand for the one above. I may one day switch out the rail, but that's not a concern now. This barrel is a Sabre and the one enroute(hopefully-Grant) is a BCM.
I don't see a need for anything longer myself.

That looks great Mark! :D
what did you use to refinish? looks real smooth
Tks Rob!
I used a trick I saw a machinist use when cutting and doing the final finish on a barrel. Sandcloth, good old fashion plumbers cloth. Of course I didn't have this in a lathe, I just had a strip and used it like a rope saw to smooth it up. Beadblast would have given it a better look, I can always do that sometime.
Nice idea if I were you design a CH latch based on that real quick and get it out real quick as im sure it will be copied.

This actually might not be a bad idea.

That is some nice file work.

PRI would want royalties since I used thier latch, and someone would change the LPI, etc. and it would be like the tact gear world, three rows of stitch vs. 4, etc. I'm sure I'm not the first person to do some mod to a latch.
Va Dinger is going to buy me a checkering file and I will take one, creat a flat on the front edge and give it a wing. Hey, if I goof it to bad, we can get another latch!
