i watched a defensive handgun vid on youtube not too long ago from a guy that's teaching to shoot warning shots before going for COM.. i tried to pull it out of my history but couldnt find it. it's actually a pretty professional looking vid, with students and real guns on a real range, but i didnt recognize the guy or his name. anybody know who im talking about? stupidest flippin thing i've ever seen.

This reminds me, unfortunately, of a situation about ten years ago when some slightly-Down's-Syndromish guy showed up in Dress Blues at the 82d Airborne Division Association Convention in Harrisburg, PA. One of the Old Timer's asked me to come over to vet this guy who had showed up back at the hotel ballroom while the active duty guys (myself included) were elsewhere at a Memorial Dinner.

Poor guy's uniform was close, but no cigar, and his recollection of schools and units, etc. was right out of some Viet Nam Air Cav novel. It was fairly easy to see through, and when I gave the old trooper a solemn side-to-side nod, he grabbed the guy by the ear and literally hauled him out of the ballroom. A half-dozen drunk 18-year-old Paratroopers took over from there and escorted him to, I presume, a dark corner someplace. Still, I couldn't escape this feeling that someone that would try that hard to fit in with a group of "elites" (on whatever level) must really have a tragic impression of his own self-worth. I can't even begin to imagine how deluded someone would have to be to try and infiltrate an SF or SEAL convention, but of course, these things do happen from time to time.

The trouble with a frontal assault on Mr. YouTube is that his frame of reference is so skewed, and so imaginary, and so steeped in fantasy that I'm not even sure that he would be able to comprehend what was being communicated. It's bad when you are a laughingstock to others. It's infinitely worse when you are a laughingstock for others, and you don't even realize it. Like I said, I almost pity the guy, but I suppose he has willingly placed himself in this situation.

A former commander of mine at Bragg used to say "when you're running with the big dogs, you've got to raise your leg a little higher." Sadly, this poor guy can't even see the dogs from where he's at.
