hey everybody-

This is my first post on this forum, as I just purchased my first AR-15 a couple weeks ago. I've been an avid shooter for a few years now, and have been considering this purchase for a while. I finally decided to bite the financial bullet and get one before they were impossible to find, and ended up purchasing a Post Ban Bushmaster XM15 - E2S (I live in New York which still has a ridiculous "assault weapon" ban in place, thus the post ban rifle).

I would like to put on some kind of rail system, to allow the attachment of a verticle grip, and maybe a flashlight. However, this rifle (http://www.bushmaster.com/catalog_xm15_PCWA3X_14M4IZ.asp) has a welded on muzzle break. I've been doing some research on the dissassembly of an AR 15, and i think you need to remove the muzzle break, in order to remove the front sight post, to remove the original forearm? (I'm not sure if this is the correct process, but you tell me- you guys are the experts :) )?

What are my options for installing a rail system on the forearm? I've seen those little sections of rail that attach to the factory forearm, can i install those with the welded muzzle break? Does the factory forearm split in two on removal, to bypass running it down the barrel? Any ideas or methods you guys could give me to get rails on this baby would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

sounds like you have factory handguards on there now.. pull the delta ring back and they come off in two pieces. you can replace them with a Daniel Defense Omega rail without removing your front sight base (FSB) or your muzzle device. that's probably your best option - http://www.danieldefense.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=109

i recommend reading this thread for starters:

and then doing a lot research with the SEARCH function- we have threads on just about every possible topic you could ask for. if you cant find something via a search, feel free to post the question here.

congrats on the purchase, and welcome to the board

Bypassomega, congratulations on your purchase. May I ask what that cost?

I agree with bkb0000 that the DD rail is your best option. Your next best option is the Troy 7.0 rail.

Enjoy.

Coldzero-

it was pretty expensive, the sticker price on the rifle at the store i bought at was around $1,500. I probably could have ended up getting it for around $1,200 online, plus transfer fees, but it was kind of an impulse buy, and also due to NY's assault weapon ban, i needed the Pre-Ban Rifle.

On a side note, for an example of how expensive the local stores are........ Two years ago i purchased a GP WAS-R 10 for $500 plus tax (and that was a lot for a wasr back then), and now the same exact rifle at the same store is selling for $1200 plus tax. Figured i'd splurge on my bushy before it would cost me $2,000

I have the same model of Bushhampster and , like the guys said, simply removed the handguards in two pieces and install a Daniel Defense Omega rail. No need to remove any sights or flash hider. It would pay to check that the factory bolt carrier group is nicely staked and all that stuff. I have just shot the hell out of mine and have a couple of spare LMT BCGs if anything eventually breaks.

The paint it optional...

Thanks for the tips- My goal right now is to save up enough to get the $300 EOTECH (i think its the 510), these daniel defense rails, forward grip, rail mounted flashlight, and a spare BCG. Nice paint job!

What do you mean by "staked", and how do i check this? Once again, I'm new to the M4 platform.
