Something everyone needs to know. When my co-workers talk about democracy and I explain that we're a republic, they just look at me like I'm speaking gibberish.

To be clear, we are both a republic AND a representative democracy. The video glosses over two important points. First, a Republic need not have any democratic elements at all. Second, a representative democracy can be limited by laws. We have a blending of these elements since we ARE bound by a supreme law (the Constitution) but have democratic means by which it can be changed.

Even if we can keep our republic safe from internal enemies who would give away our freedoms to purchase mob-rule, we would first have to buy it back from China. :(
