I just got the Borealis 1050 light yesterday afternoon. Overall, I am very impressed!! :) Looks like a normal 3 D Maglite, but the bulb and reflector shows that this isn't a normal Maglite. The rechargable power unit is very impressive also....hand made with attention to detail.

I had to wait several hours to try this light out. Damn...this hand light acts like one of those big plug in search lights!! This puppy can easliy illuminate the interiors of cars at a distance (a plus in my line of work).

Would I buy another Borealis light....YES! My co-workers will freak out when they see this flashlight in action!!! :D

Look very nice! What kind of bulb do you have in there? Is it an LED or is it incandescent?

It is an incandescent. The output is 1050 lumens out of this torch. :D

This mag lite mod uses the WA 1185 bulb. It's a 9.6V bulb on overdrive.

The bulb pulls over 3 amps, and runtime on the AA NiMH battery pack is 30-50 minutes depending on the types of cells used. It gets warm too.

Ray, what type of charger are you using?

I'm using the universal fast charger that Blackbear flashlight sells. 1.5 or 3hrs model.
The Rolls Royce carrier/battery pack has 9 - 2700 Mah Powerex Nihm cells.

1050 lumens? I'd say that puts this into the "specialty" light category. That seems like serious overkill for most applications. Might work pretty well in a rural setting though.

Helps me and my co-workers out when we have to illuminate the inside of a vehicle at distance or to disorient a scumbag. :D

Have you drop tested it yet?

Not mine, but my friend beat the shit out of his to show me that it can hold up to duty use.

Check out their site for test videos: www.blackbearflashlights.com

Look under the torture test video.

1050 lumens seems rather optimistic. Any independent testing on it?

Maybe. Works great for what I use this light for. :)
