I've been looking around at some 9mm's, and I came across a Charles Daily at a local shop. I had never really thought to consider CD as an option, but I know their AR's have a good reputation. The gun was NIB on sale for less than $400, and it got my attention. It's basically a copy of a Sig 226.

Anybody have any experience with this model? I came home and read some reviews, but all I could find were the industry type, not from actual owners.

I've had a Zastava CZ99 for about 15 years - this is the original Yugoslavian pistol. The Golan, TZ99, ZDA, and CZ999 are all variants of the original pistol.

Mine has proven to be pretty unreliable. I wouldn't buy another. I have not been able to find any spare parts, even something as simple as a recoil spring. Mags are hard to come by as well.

Look here for more information:

If I wanted another sub $400 DA 9mm, I'd look at used Berettas, Sigs, or 3rd Generation Smith and Wessons. Look at CDNN for good prices on these.

There isn't much to dislike about one of these, if you want an inexpensive DA 9mm:

5906TSW? Nice. I have a 4566TSW and it has the smoothest Da/Sa trigger I've ever felt.

Last I knew CDNN still had police trade-in 5906 handguns for very good prices, with many being well under $400.

If you're going to drop that kind of money on a handgun I'd stick to something that's a known quantity...and 3rd generation S&W's are pretty good handguns.

The reviews I've read about the ZDA are what you would probably expect from an alloy framed pistol in that price range. Reliabilty is good, but the little things are not very refined. The inside has a lot of tool marks, the DA trigger is "ok", and the SA trigger doesn't have as crisp of a break as you might like. Personally, I would look for a used Sig P228 or P229 with the old stamped carbon steel slide. Those are very fine pistols.
