A used and partially damaged Colt box, bid up to $27, plus $11 shipping, with over 4 days left to go. An empty, damaged box. $38 and counting.

What am I missing here?

Wow...that is amazing. I have some used boxes at the house. I guess I should get to listing them on ebay. Think of all the money I could be making from these idiots....

Original boxs always make your gun worth more.

Is that an actual Colt box or is it subcontracted?

Everytime I ever put up a for sale ad for any Arsenal, Inc. AK, the single most asked question from prospective buyers was "do you have the original box?"

Not "how does it run", "how accurate is it" or anything like that - some guys are all hung up on pieces of cardboard.

Even the original box idea is useless here, as the box is marked Colt and has the previous weapons serial number on the side.

One of the most bizarre listings I have ever seen there. I wouldn't pay $0.02 for the thing.

Ive never understood the concern about having a box either

Mine get thrown away pretty quick, come to think of it the ONLY box I have is the hard case my Bushmaster came in!

People fancy themselves "firearms collectors". They know that if they hold that COLT carbine and COLT box for 20 years, it will be worth $10,000 because it has the box, accessories and mint carbine.

There is some truth to it, but only if you hold it for 20+ years, and keep it perfect -- or it was rare to begin with.

Most of the real collectors kept their boxes to begin with though, as they are likely in the safe with the gun.

Check this one out, an empty box of "shells" that sold for $74.00

It is for the same reason people buy Colt, Bushmaster, or Kimber. If it is a name brand then it must be good.

I have a couple guns including a 70 series Colt Gold Cup that I have the original box for it but I wouldn't care if it were an AR-15 or hunting rifle.

It must be a high capacity Pre-Ban box.

Boy do I feel dumb. All this time I have just tossed them in the trash.

Meh - those guys are just bidding based on the Colt name. An LMT box is just as good if you don't need the "hype".

"The Box" is now up to $76.99 plus the the $11 shipping. This is without a doubt one of the most illogical things I have ever witnessed. In a recession, no less.

This excess of stupidity makes Obama being elected seem brilliant. I am losing faith in humanity. If it tops $100, we are doomed.

Should I have kept all of my boxes? No they are not Colt, but somebody had some Nornico I think AK box in good condition for sale on gunbroker for an ungodly amount of money. JUST A BOX! Oh well boxes take up to much space.

I can understand wanting a box. I can even understand paying a little for it, maybe. But that much money is f'n ridiculous.

Good for the seller if (s)he can get it.

We need to set up some cartel rules right now.

In order to keep the price high we need to take turns selling boxes. If someone wants to pay me $80 bux for a box - I'm in.

"Collecting" is just a damn odd "hobby" to begin with, so the behavior of "collectors" never amazes me since it's a given that they must be somehow mentally damaged or deficient to begin with.

I've kept the boxes to my Colts and other guns because I have the space, I've encountered the same dumbass questions that the_Katar has, and because they make it easier to ship if I sell them out of state.

Not to beleaguer this issue, but I just noticed that the used box sold for an absolutely unthinkable $121.50 plus $11.00 shipping. If someone would have tried to tell me this was possible, I would have thought they were were the most uneducated firearm oriented person I had ever met (including any far left-er).

There is no finer definition of foolishness anywhere to be found. I just can't believe it. What is he going to do with the stickers stating model and serial number, rip them off? It can never pass as an original box no matter what.

People are scary.

One has to wonder if the seller just shipped the box as-is to the auction winner, without any packaging, or if they put the box inside another box. :)

At the post office:

"Can I help you?"

"Yes I need a to get a box for shipping."

"Ok sir what do you need to ship in it?"

"A box. Oh and I will be needing $150 worth of insurance on this box as well."

That is the most brain dead thing ever seen on ebay and the most well executed. Someone paid that much for a f--kin box! I should put my fire arm boxes up for bid! I wonder what a box of spent 5.56mm brass in the original box would go for???
