Ken gave me a box of parts last summer and here is the end result. Wilson Combat frame, Caspian slide, Bar Sto barrel and SDM gold bead front sight. Hard Chrome lower and Melonite on everything else.

I delivered it to Ken on Sunday and he was pleased with the results. He shot a group into 1 1/2 to 2 inches at 15 yards, offhand.

Great looking pistol for even a greater guy. Im sure it was a honor to build it for him.

"King of feedway stopages". I never really found that to be the case and I can only assume this one runs great.

Cool weapon. Hard chrome and melontie seems like it would be a great, durable way to come up with a 2 tone 1911 that resists corrosion.

I was at the Low Light II class with Mr. Hackathorn when you stopped by the range in Clarington. The couple of toys you had with you looked very, VERY nice.

Hopefully I'll get to train under Ken again this year...and maybe I'll get to play with that nice blaster. ;)

That's hot!
I just had a Kimber Warrior frame, slide, S&A magwell, and CM Beavertail all done in Melonite- it's a beautiful finish.

Having seen Ken's collection (aka "the Pile") on a few occasions, I am glad to see he's finally got a 1911. :p

I'd be damn proud to own it.

Very beautiful! I'm really liking the two-tone.

What advantages does the gold sight have over a night sight?

What advantages does the gold sight have over a night sight?

A gold bead will pick up and reflect light fairly well, so in daylight and even moderate indoor light it's visible. In darker situations, such as when you would want night sights, it's won't be useful unless you assume that you'll always have a light source active whenever you're aiming and breaking your shots.

Todd is right about the gold bead. When it gets so dark that you don't have any ambient light to reflect off the gold bead, the owner has the Crimson Trace. They didn't name him the Tactical Dalai Lama for nothing.

Do the CT grips come in 'thins'?

Nice blaster BTW.

the gold bead never dims or wears out.

Beautiful work. I really like the old school two tone. Ken's got some nice guns but I still can't help feeling like it couldn't have gone to a nicer guy.

Lynn looks awsome. If it is near as smooth as the other two I have shot of yours I am sure it is sweet.
Hey... if Ken is happy with it you know it is good. He kinda has had some experience with the 1911 I've heard. LOL

Dave,

If you get over to see Ken sometime, he might even let you touch it!!!

I've got a couple other 1911 builds that I am working on and I will bring them down to TDI in April.

Later,

Lynn

We just brought Ken here to Atlanta this past weekend for a class. The two pistols he had with him were a G17 and the 1911 you built for him. I looked it over real close after we picked him up from the airport. Very nice job. I was impressed. Ken used it as his carry gun when we went out for dinner but did not shoot it in the class since it poured on us the whole weekend. He spoke highyly of it though.
