Did I make a bad decision getting a HK45? I can’t seem to find any mags for them. I have 2-10 round mags just wanted to get a few more.

They don't have an online order form for mags 'n such, so you'd have to call. I'm always in there trying to find USP mags, to no avail, but they're GTG on HK45 box-feeders.

The mag situation on the HK45 is killing my buzz. Not being able to find mags is bad enough, but then paying close to $60 per mag is just rediculous. I think MSRP is $69.

It is an excellent weapon, but until HK can provide mags in quantity and at a price that is reasonable ($35-40 in my book) I have a hard time loving my HK45. I'm hoping Wilcox will be able to pump out more mags at a reasonable price.

I don't think Wilcox is going to make the magazines (though I could be wrong). Part of the reason why HK's magazines are so expensive is because they're pretty much the last company that makes its own mags in house ... unless you count Beretta (since its magazines are made by a wholly owned subsidiary of the Beretta Holding Company).

Without knowing the financial arrangement between HK in Germany and the US company, my guess based on working for other European gun companies is that the Germans are selling to the US at essentially distributor price, so Germany makes a nice profit right off the bat. Then HK-USA needs to make a profit so the distributor price it sets is higher still. Now tack on margins from the distributor and dealer and you've got a pretty high street price.

You are probably right. Then add a lousy exchange rate, low production output, and high demand you get high prices and poor availability. Parts availability and cost was a 'Con' when I compared the HK to other guns. I probably should have considered it more when I made my decision.

I have no idea if Wilcox will make the mags in house. That's the inner optimist in me hoping they will. But if I've learned anything, it's that the first thing you should do with your brand new HK is shoot your inner optimist in the head.

Check out the HKPro classifieds. Several dealers there that have them as well as private sellers all the time. I've gotten numerous USP mags there and have paid WELL under msrp for all of them!

:D
It's a running gag on the HK forums b/c of an old HK catalog cover that had a backwards round in the mag...

I didn't mind so much when they were easy to find for $50 because they are very high quality but now I'm seeing them for $68 which is idiotic.

Yep! All HK guns and accessories went up last month

HK has always been absurdly pricey. Nice. But pricey.

Now what is annoying me lately is the price of Glock magazines. I am seeing them $30 on up locally!

While you're waiting for the HK 45 magazines to become available, go out and buy another pistol. Pick one that is more readily available and has more accessories readily on-hand. That's a big problem with relying on the lastest and greatest with limited availability in the current market......it's hard to keep yourself properly equiped.

I enjoyed the HK 45 and it is a great pistol, but personally I like the M&P 45 a little better. Never had any problems getting magazines from them either. I have a feeling that in the future pistols made outside of the US will be hard to come by, and they will be astronomically high in price(even though they may not be any better than what you can pick up from American shores).

Marcus,

The good news is the HK45 is now being made in the U.S.! Mag shortages always clear up. Well, except for the Bren X and the Colt Pocket 9.

Been wanting a HK45C for the longest, might as well contribute to the shortages now before the price goes up further on the mags. UMP mags are about the same price, thankfully there isnt as much of a demand for those.
