Im new here and to the AR platform. I recently put a Bushy M4A2 in layaway. i never wanted or liked the A2 upper, but thats all i could find within 100 miles of me:(
Anyway, i would really prefer a flat top upper, and i found one online at

http://www.RedneckArmory.com/product_p/ur-flat-cmplt-m4.htm

Im not sure of the brand but it has M4 feed ramps, forward assist, and the dust cover. wouldit be worth $108.00? also, would it workwith my gun? if so, how hard would it be to swap the barrel or should i have my gunsmith do it for me for $30.00?

any help would be GREAT!!! thanks!

88rr88,

Bravo Company has quality stripped M4 uppers in stock now for 93.00. I would go with one of those. The also have complete ones for 109.95. You should have no problem with it fitting on your weapon. I would specifically ask your local "gunsmith" if he is familiar with the AR platform before you allow him to work on it. Though it may appear and generally is easy to work on, you would be surprised at the SNAFU's that are made.

The first thing to do is figure out if your BM has an M4 barrel extension or not. After that, buy either an M4 or A3 receiver.

To change out the receivers, you need to:

Remove the gas tube.
Remove the barrel.
Install barrel in new rcvr.
Install the gas tube.

If you do not have proper tools for this, then have someone that does do it.

Google "M4 Feedramps" and check out the images, there should be something there that you can compare to your own rifle to determine whatcha got.

88rr88,

I am fairly certain that your upper receiver does not have M4 feedcuts in it. I have seen quite a few Bushies and I don't think any of them have it.

As for your barrel extension, again I don't know if they make them. I would use your Google-Fu and type in M4 barrel extension or something similar and also check Google images. Then compare it to yours.

Some M4 ramps:

Sabre Defence barrel/Bushmaster receiver

Bushmasters have been available with the M4 ramps for about a year.

Floating around out there somewhere is a comparison of barrel/receiver ramp combinations (I think it originated with ar15barrels.com) that someone may post.

OK, I found a copy:

Ok, so i need to see if my rifle has ramps cut onthe reciever. right? and if so, thats m4 right? if the reciever is smooth what does that make it?

(srry for nagging)

If you look at picture 2 and 3 they are both M4 upper receivers. Once has an M4 barrel and one has a standard rifle barrel. If you have no ramps as in picture 1 and 4 then you have a rifle upper. All of our carbines (500) are like picture 4. They work, but they aren't correct.

If it were me, I would get the correct combination after I ascertained what I actually have.
