scope mounting problem

Leave the front sight. You can and should be able to get rings that will raise the scope high enough so the front sight is not a problem. You want a scope on an AR to be higher than most other rifles from what I've experienced and read.

When you say the sight is in the way, do you mean that it will partially obstruct the field of vision, or that the scope physically hits it?

I have seen a few pieces of glass that with shades could run out far enough to hit the front sight, if that is the case, sell the scope and get something smaller, cause it is way too much glass for that gun anyway.

If you mean that the front sight is partially blocking the field of view, that is usually not a problem... as already mentioned, most guys run a scope a little high and the amount of front sight that is exposed to the front objective is not that big of a deal...

If you are running a low power scope, you will be able to see the front sight in the scope image... higher power scopes cause it to wash out.

All of that said, if you just dont like looking at the sight, it can be cut down or swapped for a manifold/block or folding sight -- give us a better idea of what glass you have and what it is you intend to use the rifle for... my experience is that a large percentage of guys over glass their guns anyway, increased magnification will NOT make the gun any more accurate, but it is easier to see how much you are missing by ;)

You can grind down your current one (it's the dirty/ugly way) or replace the FSB with a low profile gas block. If you're running a lower power scope (1x-5x) it'll be a little annoying. If it's a higher power (3.5x-10x or more) the front sight will just be a black blur as you'll see right past it.

You bought a scope from a website that sells SS109 ammo for $19.99 for ten rounds......................Holy crap that's some expensive stuff, go take a look at their 7.62x39 AP stuff while your there........Jesus I hope these guys don't find too many suckers to sell ammo to!

I've seen your answer and decided to ask you a question I can't get any answers for - what is the maximum height that you can mount a scope like Elcan Sepcter DR or ACOG on top of the carrying handle of the AR-15 Sporter 2? I have ACOG already mounted there; now I want to get and mount either the Elcan scope instead or get a Docter Red Dot sight and piggyback it on top of the ACOG - but everybody says both of them (Elcan and Docter) will be too high to properly zero in. Also, Elcan is supposed to be flat mounted. Is that the case? Should I forget about about those two and look for another solution?
