My nephew just completed Marine boot camp and will be looking for an A2 in a few months. Does anyone offer a 20" in standard profile? BM used to call it a 'government barrel'. I don't think it is very popular anymore but I told him I would help him locate one. By the time he finishes his combat training he may want an A4 instead but still with a standard weight 20" barrel.

I was jonesing for a 20" standard (pencil) barrel with a flattop a while back. Charles Daly was on track until election Nov. '08. Now they're like hen's teeth. Might as well get a gov't profile and have 90% more options, then have the end turned down if you really can't live with the extra ounces from gas block to muzzle.

Exactly what he is looking for. I was planning on searching Gunbroker when he is ready. May call BM as well to see if they still offer the 'Govt Barrel'. Personally I expect him to desire an A4 when his training is over and has been exposed to the A4/ACOG combo.;)

JHS, Try CMMG. They have a complete A2 rifle, A2 upper or Gov. barrel in 1/7 twist.

Good Luck, Mark

Have you thought about a 1/9 twist 20" barrel instand of a 1/7 twist. I have a 1/9 twist in my DMPS 20" it works fine.

I don't think twist rate is going to matter that much to him, but the standard weight barrel will (no Hbars). It will probably be late summer before he is done with all his training, I don't expect him to be ready to purchase until June.

I ordered my 20" upper from Brownell's.
