My wife loves shooting my c.1913 1911 and would like to get a bit more modern 1911 to use so we don't overshoot this one (I really want to pass this onto my children and start a family heirloom of sorts).

I was thinking either the SA Mil-Spec or SA GI models. Any feedback would be great, asking here because have been out of the loop as far as what is good for a general range 1911 as opposed to a carry 1911 (which appears to be the SA Pro).

I believe the best bang for the Buck in the traditional 1911 marked is a used Colt 1911A1 70 Series Government Model… They are fantastic pistols that are very well made… Collectors only want mint condition guns and an original 70 series pistol with a warn finish will be the same price as a lot of milspec’s but you will have a real Colt…

Buck,

Its this very reason I started this thread to learn these things. I love the pony for the 1911, but figured the series 70 is just premo cost period.

SA MilSpec would be a great start for a range gun, so that's my $0.02

Either one would serve your needs fine. If you dont need the Colt name on the slide then you will save some with the Springfield. I know several folks that have both and are equally happy shooting either one. If you choose the Springfield, go with the Mil-Spec, it has better sights than the GI model!!

Your choice and budget!!
