who lost his left arm in Iraq (http://www.touchbionics.com/professionals.php?pageid=85&section=4). He was in my old unit and my brother's corpsman. Great guy, the best actually. He's doing well now.

What handgun would you recommend to him for CCW? Right now he has a BHP. He lives in Northern VA and still shoots regularly.

For the most part, it's not really going to make a big difference. Just like anyone else, he needs to find a gun that (1) he can shoot well and (2) he can carry comfortably.

Sure, there are some obvious things to think about:
Avoid guns with heavy recoil.
Since reloads will be slow (and difficult to practice live fire on most ranges) higher capacity is a plus.
Placement of all controls so that he can manipulate the gun well. In particular, a reversible or ambi mag catch might make things easier depending on his hand size.

The reload thing is going to be the only major hurdle. I'm biased, but I'd recommend looking into appendix carry since it provides a very convenient and safe bucket to dump the gun in while reloading one-handed.
