I was at one of my fav gunshops today and I spotted an extremely sexy looking S&W 44 Magnum. I have been watching Dirty Harry all week on AMC so I decided I needed to get it. It even had a tritium front sight. Then I picked it up---WEIGHTLESS. Dear Lord in heaven, that gun must kick your teeth out. Has anyone actually shot one of these lightweight 44 Magnum's?

i had a 329PD for a short period of time...

i can save you some cash...

go out to your car, open the driver's side door, place your hand in the opening, and then slam it 6 times as hard as you can....

there, now you've experienced shooting an ultralight .44 magnum, and didn't have to spend nearly $1000 to do it

I have shot the 329PD, and it was not pleasant. Not punishing or painful, just not pleasant. The biggest factor with respect to recoil in these super light weight 44's is the speed of the recoiling firearm. 44 specials are no problem.

Buy it and shoot 44 specials through it, and load it with magnums for anyone else that asks to shoot it.

That is what I do with my 45/70. I load up 2000fps screamer 405 grainers for friends. Mine are loaded to about 1300 fps.;)

I had a S&W 629 4" in .44mag and it was a very cool weapon. Like most of the weapons I have had I wish I still owned it. Full power .44 mag loads were not much fun to shoot on a regular basis. Put .44 Special rounds in it and it was a pussycat and super accurate. If it is a reasonably good deal and you like the looks of it then you should buy it. Most likely you will shoot .44 spcl through it most of the time.

So I am not the only one who does that? :p

I have shot one of these. They kick to the point of no fun. I shot the 4" .500 S&W and it did not feel as bad as that scandium .44.

I want a 329PD. :(

On the bright side. I picked up a 327PD recently. 24.3 ozs combined with full power Buffalo Bore hard cast 180s, makes it a lot of fun to shoot, although I did manage to draw blood. Any more recoil than that would likely tilt the fun factor in the wrong direction, though. But how can you not get excited about eight rounds of 180 grainers running between 1350 and 1400 fps? What a great trail gun.

I did a trick on Dinger with my 3" 629. I loaded up some mild 240 hard cast, 8 grains of Unique--for the first two, then had some Remington 185 grain dragon killers--it was funny

My friend has the smae pisol in 357Mag. It's a lot of fun to shoot. Kinda one of those revolvers you go to when you hear a bump in the night. Has a big comfortable grip, big front nite sight and a gattling gun cyclinder.

How about 15+1 rounds of 180 grainers at 1350 fps? Welcome to the 10mm Glock 20.:D

This coming from rayREVOLVER?! :D

Wish the 10mm loads had hard cast loads, 'cept Glock says "no!" to lead. :(

Me? I personally prefer a revo for the trail.

I have not shot the Scandium 44 yet, but I can tell you that I have recently traded my 500 bear survival gun with the 2.5" barrel. I thought that sooner or later I would dislocate my thumb or need dental work.

I routinely shoot 465gr hard cast slugs @ about 1450fps out of my 10.5" 500 S&W but that gun weighs 5 lbs., I wonder why they haven't made a scandium 500:eek: ?

I load 5 cowboy action .45LC loads in my Super Redhawk for people, with the 6th round being a factory load 240gr. Hornady XTP (.454 Casull). just when they think "hey this isnt bad" the big one goes off and they leave with a big grin and shakey hands.:D

Like you, I had a S&W 629 4" Mountain Gun. It kicked hard and I got rid of it (traded it on my Glock). I should have kept it. My favorite round is .45ACP and I am very comfortable with it but that .44mag was hard. I can't imagine what a smaller lightweight version would be like.
