View Full Version : Silver Eagle Group in NoVA

So I found a smoking deal on a pistol I was looking for from this guy in Maryland. The best place in between us to do a transfer was Silver Eagle Group, the place we've all castigated because one of the owners contributed to Obama. I went there out of necessity after calling ahead. They bent over backwards to help me out, charged a very reasonable $25 per gun for transfer fees and were overall great guys and from all outward appearances avid shooters who believe strongly in the RKBA. The place was well stocked with 5.11 clothing, Woorich Elite, and plenty of tactical nylon. Their gun selection was actually pretty good. I didn't check prices on rifles but they're the only place in the area with MSAR STG556 Aug replicas and AR15s in stock. Handgun prices were pretty fair, not screaming good deals but acceptable. The place sponsors matches and very obviously supports the shooting sports. The coffee shop was cool, the receptionists weren't bad :D and the atmosphere was very laid back yet professional.

I was impressed enough with the people working there and the general air of firearms enthusiasm that Silver Eagle Group will be getting more of my business regardless of one of the owner's reprehensible personal political contributions. Not getting anything out of writing this post and I'm a Marine from Wyoming that carries the gun I got shot with and definitely not a liberal, someone who supports Obama or gun control in any way. You want to flame me, rock on. I'll rip on you right back or settle it over a friendly wager at the range but these are good people, at least most of them. Give them a shot.

I'd hoped to attend their opening, just to see what's what, but couldn't because I had to go to Pendleton. :(

Not just no but HELL NO!!

I would rather have driven the extra distance to Virginia Arms in Manassas (who incidentally usually maintain very good inventory in guns).

Like it or not, a portion of every dollar you put into that facility's coffers ends up in the two obama supporters' bank accounts. In four years, who is to say that they will not once again use that money to help re-elect the very same individual who had just announced that he would like to PERMANENTLY reinstate the AWB?

The guys who work there and run the joint may be very much pro-RKBA and honestly nice guys. But the fact of the matter is they are just little fish in that pond and will only see a small fraction of each dollar you spend there. The guys who will see most of the profit are the ones who betrayed us and IMHO, you should be ashamed of yourself for supporting these scumbags (which is what you did whether you like it or not). And you should be ashamed for trying to convince others to do the same. But that's JM2CW.

Understood but I'm not ashamed of myself and probably won't ever be. Hopefully the furor will make the two owners pull their heads out of their asses if the creeping socialism doesn't :D I'm at Bernie's quite a bit too. Look for the blond haired guy with the gunshot arm or ask any of the employees if I'm around (my name is Baxter) and say "Hi."

SEG has a better selection, probably because of their reputation compared to Bernie's hard earned rep.

Where at on Pendleton?

Just got back this evening. Did some intro stuff/prep for 2/5 @ R-223A (RCO/PVS-14/PEQ-15), kicked an EOTech shoot for MSOB @ R-130, attended a portion of the Urban Sniper Course at SOTG and shot @ R-218, then taught PVS-14/PEQ-15 & LA-5 for another MSOB component @ R-111.

LeJeune for 1/6 this week, back to Pendleton later (maybe sooner!) in March.

I've discovered a disturbing trend: if you're not still a green-suiter, these knuckleheads aren't as likely to listen to you unless you're sporting a huge ****-off beard, so...this damned thing ITCHES!!

Did you get a chance to look at the actual facilities?

I know those ranges well, just about lived there :D

I didn't check out the ranges but everything else there was top notch, no expenses spared so.....

You should grow some long ass hair, see if you get more respect :D

I'd end up looking like Waingro from "Heat," but with more pattern baldness.

Pass!

i considered going to SEG, but there are a couple factors that stop me

1) Distance: I can shoot at the IWLA near me (indoor range 5 minutes from my house)....if I am going to drive to Ashburn, the NRA range is closer, and a known quantity

2) I have no reason not to do all my gun business with Bernie at VA Arms, which, again, 5 minutes away...

3) The political contributions used to be less of a factor for me until I saw the extent of it...it goes well beyond just contributing to the Obama campaign...there is a history of contributing to many state and local politicians as well...all whom are extremely anti-gun....that bothers me....people have used the "get in good with the current administration" excuse for these guys, which, meh, ok, maybe....but that doesn't explain contributing to people in the VA GA that are clearly ant-2A....I believe 3 of the 5 people keeping us from being able to override Kaine's inevitable veto of the Restaurant carry bill have received money from these guys....that is REAL to ME...fortunately in NoVA I have plenty of good choices....until they start making better choices themselves they won't be one of mine

as far as stock at VA Arms goes, we get a ton of stuff in, it just goes out as fast as it comes in...the handgun cabinets are all pretty well stocked as of yesterday around 3 (although the G22s sold, and we still (like everyone) are having issues getting in G19s and 17s)....

but there were people waiting outside VA Arms yesterday morning as early as 20-30 minutes before store opening....i bet today is insane

EDIT: I should add that I now work part time at VA Arms...I had forgotten to change my signature...I apologize for the error...problem changed

Personally I would do business elsewhere unless I had no real choice. No one could be truly serious about their right to keep and bear arms (as they purport) and at the same time support Barack Obama. I wonder if any of them were cringing the other day in light of the AG's remarks?

It's not one owner, it's systemic to several of the people with ownership interests. It's also a matter of integrity that they tried to explain it away as "How you have to do business in the area."

If that was the case, they would have also contributed to people like Tom Davis, John Warner, and many other very prominent and senior Republicans in this area. Yet they didn't.

You can do what you like with your money, but I'll support VA Arms more and more -- unless Bernie ends up being a crony for Barack Obama.

Hell, I would have driven out to Frederick County Firearms, in Winchester, before I went to Silver Eagle.

Guys, I'm listening. Just impressed still with the folks I talked to.

There's ZERO chance that Bernie likes BHO. Bernie is a gunnut just like the rest of us here. Bernie is not an elitist he's a down to earth guy. His father like mine was a career Marine who taught him great values.

We have 3 full-time employees and several part-timers and 2 of those part-timers are attorneys! (not a claim too many shops can claim). The other part-timers are former and current police officers, a career firefighter, a former US Olympic Trap shooter, an investment banker, a gov't contractor, a firearms and driving instructor for a Gov't contractor, and a college student. Several of us are competitive shooters and hunters and we're all pro-gun to the core.

FCFirearms is a fine shop too, if I didn't work at or live near VA Arms FCFirearms would get a lot of my money.

i believe you...there are probably really, really good, like-minded folks that work there

its hard for me to begrudge someone that is working a job, trying to make ends meet because the owners of their corporation are idiots, especially given our current economic outlook....sins of their fathers and such

I've had a couple students stop by SEG. They were both very impressed with the facility and the staff. Neither was tempted to get memberships, though. Both commented on the higher cost compared to the NRA Range, and one was adamant about the poli/donation issue.

And not that it's needed, but another +1 for the guys at Virginia Arms, especially Bernie. Without doubt the best gun shop I've ever been in as far as quality and knowledge of the staff is concerned.

I was in there today and the place was packed. Glock fixed that stiff mag release on my 21SF that you recommended that I send back.

Wow I am out of the loop. So both Blue Ridge and Silver Eagle supported BHO?

SE is just down the road from me...that sucks.

Also want to say the Bernie and the folks at VA Arms are some of the best I've done business with.

We should have the SOT by summer.
