I bought another G19 yesterday. Now while that is not very exciting, what is interesting is that it had on it the Austrian proof marks, and an import stamp under the trigger guard.

They are discussing them over on Glocktalk in this thread (http://glocktalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=999602). The consensus is that according to the stamped codes, they were made in the Austrian factory sometime in late 2006; where they have been sitting for the past two years is up for speculation.

My macro lens is fuxxored, so here are some pics that I didn't take. Photo credits to Cleck from Glocktalk:

I also purchased a new one last week through the LE program. Mine had the same markings.

I also got one of these. No extra value but I thought it was cool to have the markings everyone outside the US gets to see. I could only get my hands on a red label but plan on getting another one and it will be a blue label.

I just bought 2 of them at my friend's shop both with Austria proof marks in a pink labeled box. But the production codes on mine are LYX which according to the local Glock guy are more recent production?

I just got one of these Friday night. Mine has the KUW prefix and was test fired last month on the 11th. Tucked away in the safe.

I am tempted to go looking for one of those! I just had my Lady check hers. She got it a few months ago after the first wave of the panic begun. I was curious. She does not have one of those though. We were both :( Now we want to go searching for one. LOL It ain't in the budget though . . .

Anyway, that is one nice G19.

Thanks. It was a total fluke getting it too. The only LE Glock dealer where I live didn't have any in stock when I called a few weeks back, but the clerk said the were willing to order them, you just had to put down a deposit. Well, Friday afternoon I headed down there intending to order one, and just on a whim I asked if they had any G19 LEO packages. Clerk said "yep, one left." When I picked my jaw up off the floor, I said sold, and did the paperwork.

I didn't know anything about the Austrian proofmarks when I bought it. I didn't even really look at it in the store. Just a quick cursory glance to make sure the box had everything (even though I watched them cut the label, you never know).

When I came home, I was inspecting it more thoroughly and installing a Vickers extended mag release and a hole plug, when I noticed the markings. I got out my other G19 and sure enough, it didn't have them. Went to Glocktalk and sure enough, there is a dozen page long thread about them.

Regarding the timeline, the first mention of these marked Glocks was on 2/11. Since that time, about 10 or so date codes have been identified, which puts the importation numbers around 10,000; and climbing. As of now, only G19 models have been identified with these markings.

Obviously, this is a stopgap measure taken by Glock to try and keep up with the huge demand stateside and will cease as soon as they catch up to the demand. If anyone wants one, I would suggest calling around and trying to get one while they are still in the marketplace, since noone knows where they are coming from or how many there are.

Just for info- the Eagle proof marks indicate that these guns were inspected, then proofed with ammo (3rds.) that has 6000 bar pressure (twice the pressure of a
conventional 9mm) and then inspected again. Not as throughout as a MPC bolt but close.

Very nice G19's. I love those eagle proof marks.

I don't get it. Why do these guns have the proof marks whereas Glock's sold to the mainstream don't? They're all made in Austria no?

Not entirely. Some components are made in Austria, some are made in the states. Most of the Glocks I've seen on shelves recently have had frames made in the USA.

The frames I am aware of, but the slides are all fabricated in Austria, and stamped as such, why then are most commercially sold Glock's in North America devoid of the proof mark? Are they running two divergent production lines?

Honestly, I've never seen an Austrian proofed gun here in the US.

I may be wrong, but IIRC guns are proofed as finished, complete assemblies. I think Glock finishes the assembly here in the US (on US guns, of course) and therefor they do not get proofed. Same with SIGARMS, I believe. Guns that are imported as complete units are proofed.

I've seen 6-7 of them in the past few months, heard of many more buying them. Wouldn't mind getting one for myself, but that isn't in the cards for awhile.

The GLOCK 19 is one of the most beloved pistols... It is highly manageable by most sized hands, easily concealed, and reliable...

If you don't already own one, I recommend you get one...

Nice Pistola BTW... Interesting the Austrian markings though... I wonder if we will see any "Rough Texture" ones coming with those markings...

That's correct. A number of foreign countries actually require all firearms manufactured within their borders to be proofed. By shipping the parts elsewhere for assembly, all of the costs involved (which are more substantially than simply the cost of one or two proof rounds) are avoided.

However, it is possible to proof test just a barrel, and some US manufacturers have done that in the past when proof testing was required.

I love my 1911's but my go-to gun for general purpose has been and will continue to be my G19. I have been searching but with no luck for another G19 with the Austrian proof marks.

I told the wife that the marks were special and that it would be good to have in the collection.

When I got my G19, it was because I wanted one, and getting one of the Austrian marked ones made it that much sweeter!

I think Glock is bringing whole pistols from Austria to help meet the now-crazy US demand. From what I hear, Glock is still way behind in production.

A red label Glock is a standard Glock with 2 standard capacity magazines.

A blue label Glock is for LEO sales with 3 standard capacity magazines and special LEO pricing (which is even cheaper than dealer cost on a red label gun).

A non-LEO can get red label Glocks pretty close to blue label LEO prices by joining GSSF and purchasing directly from Glock Inc (must be transferred at a dealer in your home state).

I put about 200 rounds through one this weeked for familiarization... I must say I'm impressed with the accuracy and ergonomics of the 19.

I *might* have to get one for CCW. I don't want to become a "two gun" guy, though.
