View Full Version : Auto Knife Picture Thread
I'm a big fan of the autos..who else has some ?
I have an Exec Scarab, Ultratech 7 and Troodon.
The only one I have is the TAD green bead peen Halo III.
I'd recommend this knife to anyone.
My others are a couple of Striders.
They make about the best Auto's on the planet.

found a great deal on a HALO III tactical serrated..this one is for xmas :D
I've had a green Amphibian for a couple of years now that I have been very happy with. Needs to be resharpened though.
WTF? No pictures? Rename this the Auto Knife Picture Thread and start posting!
I like the Troodon Green Frame:
http://nicnac.net/media/troodongreen.jpg
And the Fire Ant with the serrated blade:
http://nicnac.net/media/makfireant.jpg
WOW!
http://nicnac.net/media/scarabultralightcustom001.jpg
I still really like the old Halo models though- with the claw logo on the front leading edge of handle.
just rename the thread..will post pics of mine tomorrow :)

That depends on your own state and local laws.

I cannot complain about mine.
It has been a damn good knife. I won it during one of G&R Tactical's "Silent Auctions" a few years ago.

I guess somewhere along the way, I pissed off the great benchmade god... cause I have horrible luck with them. We were issued them for a spell and I killed off a mess of 'em I tell you.
KL- you should see the pictures I have of my one Osborne. It's the Green handled guy with the purple titanium liner. When I had sent it in to Benchmade after I chipped the tip of the blade off, I had lost 3 screws and the handles swiveled independently like a balisong! The liner was like a small needle for untying knots.
BM charged me $25 for an entirely new blade and fixed the rest for no charge.
I love them.
Ooh, I have an auto for this thread now. It's a "G-Force" which is a knockoff of some nice Italian auto folder. $20 for a knife with a standard thumb stud that will also go "auto" if you shift the one side of the handle a touch. It's pretty slick...
My well used Benchmade.

I have a Halo III Tactical and a Troodon DE Tactical.
I've had good luck with Benchmades
I've had about 7 of their knives, 3 autos and 4 folders that I can count.
I broke one tip from from a folder (model unk -- and its discontinued).
I have a really stupid question... I have one of these Microtech HALO II's... I wish that I could push the button and the blade would retract back into the knifes body... however, I have to puch the button and use the edge of the kydex carrier to completely close the blade...
Am I missing something? Or, is this just how the knife is?
Thanks in advance.

Yancey,
Are you using the cocking bar to pull the blade back? You shouldn't have to push against the blade if the cocking bar is working properly. Once the blade is deployed, push the button and pull back on the bottom end of the handle. The cocking bar is held in place with a ball bearing detent.
The Halo III, II, 2.3, CFO, and Combat Talon, are all single action and have to be cocked. The Scarab, Troodon, UTX, Makora, Ultratech and a few others I can't recall.. are double action and work in and out on the thumb switch.
No, he doesn't know about the cocking bar.
If you look at Edwin's picture of the green Halo- you can see all the way at the left where the cocking bar begins right after the last two screws. The cocking bar has two grooves on each side to help grasp it- it is a little small.
They make about the best Auto's on the planet.

MICROTECH is the BEST PRODUCTION auto
Bought my FIRST L-udt in 1995 and was HOOKED
just as bad as AR15
HALO is a cool OTF but I dont know if I would use one for protection or not
I seen Tony M beat the SHIT out of one throwing etc
I did Break my VERY first Coil Spring on my SOCOM ELITE
My Fault maybe since I swim in the salt water with it!!
Took them like for ever to fix it and send it back
But it did come with SERRATIONS for free
Wich I asked for
Not really a good pic but its all I have at the moment! AK74 Automatic, it carries well, holds an edge and sharpens fairly easily.

Are you guys buying these local within your state of residence?
Every web site I went to has a warning about shipping to LE/Gov employees only.
Sure are a lot of MICROTECH models to choose from, which do you all consider as the beefier models that can take some abuse?
Definetly want one of these badboys.
The only otf auto I have was givin to me years ago, no name on it, black plastic handle, push thumb lever forward, blade shoots out, pull thumb lever back blade retracts.

I have a HALO 3-2007 and a Mikora 7-2003 ...
I got my HALO first - and I realized at that point that these are very serious weapons but thats the difference from my Gerber Applegate which is a tool a knife a prybar if needed a cudgal. Microtechs are made for cutting one thing and one thing only. If you catch my drift !

I hear ya on that.
After I posted the question I realized it was pretty stupid to ask how people aquired thier knives on an open forum.
I really like the Combat Troodon but since it would be illegal and useless for me to carry there is no reason to spend the bucks on it. ( makes no sence I can carry a concealed firearm but not an automatic knife - go figure)
Instead am gonna look at one of the good quailty assisted opening folders, they seem to be fast as hell anyway.

Took the clip off so it would fit better in the shroud pocket on a Nomex uniform.

Microtech LCC DA Damascus ... My wife bought it for me as a Valentine's Day gift years ago. After almost ruining it, I bought a standard stonewash blade version which I then managed to lose (I was on a swing set ... seriously, it's more embarrassing than the Fobus mag pouch).
Lately I've been fascinated with the idea of carrying a balisong, but I know it's completely impractical.

I have a Benchmade Infidel. Nice knife, but I haven't found it to be useful enough to carry regularly.
http://SSEquine.net/infidels.jpg
The AFO is a beast and a great tool. I also have an old Benchmade Reflex automatic that I've had for many years.
http://SSEquine.net/knivess.jpg
My most useful field knife is this Zero Tolerance 350ST. It's not an automatic exactly, it's a spring assist. The thumb button is worthless IMHO, but there's a tang on the blade hilt that lets that sucker out in a blink.
http://SSEquine.net/zerotolerances.jpg
But this is the knife I carry every day. The Super Squirt is one I bought and assembled recently as a kit from Knifekits.com and converted to an automatic. It's a 2-inch blade, very easy to carry and very useful for most of what I need a knife for. The conversion to switchblade was pretty simple as the bolster was already recessed for the spring. I only had to drill the blade pivot for the spring end.

Here is my $40 M&P. I am happy with it so far.

Uh huh. And then you'd have 5 or 6 firearms instead of the same number of knives. Surely you must see that there is a segment of the population that would call possession of all of those firearms "meaningless bs".
Maybe it just doesn't work to be too critical of other people's hobbies. i know people that have far more invested in their golfing hobby than I do in firearms (or knives). Golf, for god's sake....

They are generally 100% legal to own. Where the rub is, you generally have to be LE/FF or Paramedic to carry it.
C4
Varies by state, sometimes by county or municipality - some places illegal to carry, some places Ok with CCW, some places OK if under a certain blade length. What is illegal (Federal law) is interstate transfer via USPS unless going to military or LE. Contract carriers appear to be an exception to the interstate commerce situation. Possession is illegal on Federal lands or jurisdictions.

What an awesome auto knife! A Sandshark is at the very top of my most wanted knife list. That said, I'm not holding my breath waiting to get one...considering they are rarer than hen's teeth. The several tests I've seen done on them blew me away....one dude on youtube just starts stabbing a metal drum over and over, and the knife never fails, and then remains perfectly functional.

Lol, sorry.
They are SFPs/GBICs for a brocade fiber optic switch. was awhile ago but I believe I was installing a bunch of 48 port switches and had to populate all of the ports as they shipped empty.
Bonus point for anyone who can tell me what speed they are.

I no longer buy communist BM knives, but am glad I picked up these two before starting my personal boycott.

Most people think of the Infidel as a gimmick, or collector knife, but this one has seen a lot of use.

After running 940s for awhile I picked up some OTF, with The mini-infidel being my favorite, A microtech Ultratech my second and some AKCs that aren't bad.
What I really like about the Infidel is that it has the center slide button, while the microtech has a slide on the side. To me, the Infidel is far more ambidextrous. The AKC has a center slide like the Infidel, but it doesn't have a pocket clip, or a very easy way to add one.
Max length for pocket carry here is 3.5.
SigFreak- That is nice looking, that is what I'm looking for, but cheaper than a Benchmade ( and I assume yours isn't cheap). Spear point, slide like the Infidel, under 3.5 inches, and not $300+.

How do you guys like the Socom Auto?

As you can see, I too am a big fan of the Microtech Dirac’s.

With the lightning fast OTF deployment of its razor sharp double-edged dagger blade stretching out to ONE & 15/16th INCHES of steel mayhem… no envelope, even in California, is safe from its cutting and slashing power!

--------What knife is this one?
Been wanting an OTF. But all the good ones are more than I'm willing to spend.

Sorry I can't help you on that, I found it in a LGS about 3 years ago. It is only marked CHINA. I only bought it because it was $20.
