Just a thought... I saw the thread where people are basically doing some introductions and a brief professional bio; maybe it would help to make a tacked thread for folks to reference?

I was copying individual posts to this post, but it was getting so long it really saves no time - please take a second to read through the who's who; a lot of real world knowledge in one place!

ACLS, PALS, ITLS and AMLS certifications. Also Wilderness EMT. Currently, I'm working on my EMT-Paramedic and will be testing National Registry in December. Other certifications include Swift Water, Confined Space, and High Angle Rescue Technician. Current member of NAEMT, NREMT, and former member of Appalachian Search and Rescue Conference, Blue Ridge Mountain Rescue Group.

HazMat Paramedic in a large progressive urban third service ems agency, assigned to care for the bomb squad at EOD incidents. I am on a regional CBRNE Strike Team and have most of the rescue certs out there. Commissioned FireFighter, USAR Technical Search Specialist, HazMat Technician, Swiftwater, Confined Space, High Angle, Trench, Wide Area Search, Etc. If you can think of a government sponsored CBRNE class, I have probably had to go (ACBIRC at Dugway Proving Ground, LSU Sampling, COBRA Live Agent at FtMcClellan, NERTC in Maryland (National Fire Academy), Rad/Nuc in Nevada, IRTB and PRSBI at EMRTC in New Mexico, basically everything. Plus studying for my FP-C exam. Currently in pursuit of both my TCLEOSE Peace Officer license with the county sheriffs dept as well as a BAAS in Emergency Management Administration through West Texas A&M.

I have been in the Fire Service since 1997 and an NREMT-I since 2000. As for certifications, well they number in the triple digits but the only ones that really mean anything to me are, NREMT-I, NPQ FF II, Haz-Mat Technician, Rapid Intervention Techniques, FF Survival, BTLS & ITLS, PALS, ACLS (they would not give me the card because I am an intermediate), Crash Victim Extrication (x7, yeah I like this course), and if I can get off my tail and finish two more classes I will have my Associates Degree in Fire Science.
I work one full time fire dept. in a county that serves around 100,000 citizens and has a daytime population of around 130,000 due to several industries. I worked part time with the EMS service here for about three and a half years before taking an additional full time job (FF/EMT-I) in the county I live in. In 1988 we held the "distinction" of being the "Murder Capital of the World" with the highest murder rate per capita. Well we dont hold that title anymore but the murders keep coming. We have had three seperate shootings in the last two weeks alone and the neighbor to my fire station (house within 50') was found brutually murdered in her home last year. Hell, the first shooting I went to was a double with one DOA and I had only been there 7 shifts. I guess what I am getting at is working here is a trial by fire.

Obtained EMT Basic in 1990 and EMT-P in 1992. Active full-time from 1990 to 1995, but loss of hearing due to an firearm-related incident on the job pushed me out of the trucks. I still keep my CE up to date, but only for my personal satisfaction.

I'm 39, and i live and work in the philippines. Spent most of my late teen years as a volunteer in a Emergency Reaction Group (hey, it was a great way to spend my ROTC time). found myself digging a lot of people out of an earthquake and a volcanic eruption back then. went into medical school in 93. later took up Pediatrics, but soon got sick of that and went into Emergency Medicine. Been an ER Doc for nearly 8 years now. Used to work in a Trauma Center, but left there to work in a provincial hospital.

I'll make my second post a second intro, as it was this sub-forum that finally motivated me to join, and I'll probably open my mouth here before long.

I'm a former EMT-Basic, I let my licensure lapse to pursue "higher" education (psych and pre-med. I'm currently a college burn-out, though I'll get around to finishing it up eventually). Though I wasn't Wilderness cert'd, I spent a lot of time in the back-country,and working in the extreme-rural ranch environment (Hey, I grew up a cowboy... and saddle bags hold a lot of med kit).
Now I'm an off again on again (mostly off, this season) firefighter with the US Forest Service, and giving a lot of thought to going back to school and continuing with EMS.

Here and there I've picked up training in this or that related to first aid, EMS, and medicine. I'm all about learning more, and more, and more about these things.
I grew up 50 miles from a paved road, and 60 from a hospital or veterinarian - I learned a lot about first aid and medicine on people and critters (what us back-country folks call "doctorin'")out of necessity as a kid, and the habit just stayed with me.

I also do some writing on medical topics for the layman, and have designed and taught a basic med course for the armed citizen that bridges the TCCC into the civilian self-care realm.

Looking forward to discoursing with y'all.

Hi y'all,

I am currently a Student Registered Nurse Anesthetist (SRNA, class of 8/2010). Have spent several years in critical care (ICU) in Vascular and Transplant surgery but we saw all types of stuff and plenty of trauma. I am, and have been, at a major academic institution in the southeast.

Recently, I have seen trauma from a new perspective in anesthesia. I will tell you this; you combat medics and first responders have my respect and appreciation as we can sometimes save patients because of the groundwork y'all did in the field!

I look forward to reading the stuff here and hopefully giving some contribution!

I don't know if it counts but:

Royal Life Saving Society: Bronze Medallion and Bar, Bronze Cross and Bar, Award of Merit & Teacher's Certificate. Bronze Medallion is the qualification needed by Life Guards here in the UK. All the others come after that including the Teachers Certificate which qualifies me to teach Life Guards in water skills, BLS and First Aid.

Army 11 years: Basic Combat Medic and yearly BLS updates and testing.

Police 5 years: First Aid, Heartstart and BLS.

St Johns Ambulance: Outdoor First Aid course every two years just to stay current.

Hospital experience: I did a year of a nursing degree and learned about drips, injections, sutures and some diagnostic skills.

I am moving to the USA in the near future and have already checked out the local community college for an EMT-B course so that I can complete a current US recognised qualification.

I would love to do a TCCC course in the future, I was offered one by Paramedic who is also former SF but with the move to the US its not possible - so, if anyone can help out sometime I'd be appreciative.

Hello,

BSN RN currently working in a Level 2 ER. BLS, ACLS, and PALS certified. Been in this position for 2.5 years.

Spent 5 years working the same ER as a ER tech while going through nursing school.

Previously certified EMT-B (never rode a rig, went straight to the ER as a tech), and WFR. Both certifications have long since expired.

I feel that I still have a lot to learn and am looking to move into an ICU/CCU position sometime in the near future. Looking forward to doing some of my learning here.

1991-94- US Navy (AME) worked on leaky A-6 Intruders and loved it...left to learn how to work on people....

94-2005- Started as EMT-Basic for one year then on to Paramedic. Worked ground and air for 10 years,, fixed wing (421) and Helicopter in an AS-350. Loved the air...no retirement in the private sector though...

2005 to present- Work for a state agency..on a Tactical Team for the last three years. I keep my Paramedic current. Recently attended my first Tactical Medic course. Great course, but nothing to compare it to yet. I function as an Operator on my team and now as the official Tactical Medic.

This is my first post here...hope to learn where I can and be an ASSet the rest of the time.

Hi all. Army from 1988-94. FF/Paramedic from 1994 to now. Teach ADLS, Hazmat, etc. I think I've held almost every cert in EMS in IL except for CCEMT-P, but let most lapse over time because a. they're hard to keep up with all the requirements, b. they cost a lot of money, and c. most are fluff once you become experienced and knowledgable. The important ones are my Paramedic, CPR instructor, EMS lead instructor, and ADLS instructor. And since I left the FD last year, I spend most of my time teaching the next generation.

New to the forum.
Used to be a certified first responder in Alaska several years back. Then I was a BSA Lifeguard, then a VA Beach lifeguard, and somewhere in there a Red Cross CPR/1st Aid instructor. All my certifications have lapsed so I'm still operating off 10 yr old data.

In all that time, and especially now, if I'm not the guy receiving the first aid, I'm just the guy giving it when the medics/paramedics finally arrive.

Good day...I thought this might be a good first post for me.

I'm an Emergency Physician. I used to work in a major urban trauma center/teaching hospital as an ED attending and faculty member, now I work in a fairly small town ED in rural America. I'm also the medical director for our multi-county EMS agency and the local county FD. I also participate in one or two medical missionary trips a year, either Africa or S. America.

I'm a former fighter pilot, retired USAF, I used to be a paramedic back in the dawn of time, and am involved in SAR.

Originally I came here because I want to get some NFA weapons, and saw this sub. If I can answer any questions, I'll give it a shot. Of course, while I'm a physician, I'm not YOUR physician so no medical advice is offered.

hi,

36 y/o FF, been a ff for 12 years and paramedic for 8 years. i work for the city of Miami driving one of the busiest pumpers. miami's FD does both medical and fire so we get to see alot. like most FF we do not like the medical but it pays the bills.

when FF say they do not like medical is cause the abuse of calls. people here use fire rescue as a red taxis and house calls.

Carried an EMT-I card for 10+years now

Work....

2 years as a Volunteer firefighter in Northern Ca
4 seasons as a Wildland Firefighter for the feds. 2 on Engine 2 in Whiskeytown (Broken up with sometime on the prescribed natural wildland crew)
2 seasons working for CAL Fire
3 years private Ambulance (about half transport BS and half in a 911 system)
1 season at Sierra at Tahoe as a Ski Patrolman

Some of the Ambulance was in the off fire season, so I really have about 7 or 8 years of EMS Tore my left meniscus about 2 years ago and I'm powering through a bulging disk right now (its fun times let me tell ya) so I am not currently working, but I am still taking classes and learning as I go. One of these days I may get a P-card (once my kids are in school so I dont have to watch them so often/much. Anyhow thats a little about me.

Hello everyone, I’ve been an army medic for 6 years now, I spent 12 years before that as an 11B and transitioned over after hearing all medics tales of cold beer and hot women at Ft Sam. I am passionate about marksmanship and emergency medical treatment. In my classes I emphasize that proper use of marksmanship fundamentals is the Army’s best preventative medicine. Hope to learn a lot from everyone here and help out where I can.

As my username may suggest I am a fireman, and EMT-b and and a 11b in the army.

I've held my EMT-B cert since 2003 although it lapsed for awhile when I was in Iraq. I've been a fireman also since 2003 when I'm not running around playing Army, and have volunteered both in MD and VA. In the Army I'm and 11b currently deployed for the third time and have been to both the new and old CLS courses.

NREMT-I
EMD - Dispatcher (emergency medical dispatch)
Completed EMT-P; taking NR (Texas requires it for state cert., it's not my favorite test, I'd rather have an enema than take that test.)

I have worked for a private ambulance service, in the ER, and currently work for a 911 service.

My job requires all personel to be ACLS, PALS, PHTLS and EMD (only of dispatching) certified. Also hold my CPR instructor, finishing up my PALS/ACLS instructor.

Hey guys, a quick intro.

Active duty Norwegian Army. I have the following courses:

Qualified First Aid (Level 2)
Advanced First Aid (Level 3)

These are the standard courses we run in the Norwegian Army, with everyone geting Level 2 training, and Medics getting Level 3 Training.

Patrol Medic Course (ISTC Pfüllendorf)
TCCC course

Also deployed as a squad medic to Kosovo and as my mentor teams medic in an OMLT in Afghanistan.

I am very interested in first aid, and looks like there is a good opportunity to learn some stuff here.

I'm small potatoes compared to some of the heavy hitters in this thread, but I have 17+ years as an EMT-B with a variety of extra certs (ITLS, TECC, TACMED, etc) and also spent 6 months overseas somewhere hot and sandy in an armored ambulance responding to terror incidents. No military background.

I did a good bit of time in the Army as an Infantryman starting in 2004. Did some traveling in that capacity. Finished Paramedic school in 2015 while I was still in. I was unable to reclass, so I got out about 18months ago, joined the Reserves and reclassed to 68w. Currently working as a Paramedic, and have ITLS, TCCC, PHTLS, AWLS cards. I'm also working on getting back in on active duty.
