If the choice is only between those two buy the PMC.

You can factor about 8-10 cents per round out of the PMC due to the value of the brass if you were to sell it to a reloader.

That makes the PMC the better value eh?

WOW......Wolf steel cased garbage for $7.99 a box.......I just bought 30 boxes of Federal XM193F Lake City 2008 production for $6.99 a box.

The XM193 was on sale at a local department store for $6.99.......but it was supposed to be a four box limit per customer. The gal at the checkout said I could have as many as I wanted, so I went back to the sporting goods dept. and got 26 more boxes!!:D:D

Sorry for highjacking your thread..........in regards to your situation......I would definitely get the PMC. I do not care for Wolf.

You may want to buy a case of wolf online. That should run you about $5/box

For just plinking Wolf is fine.

To all those who think wolf will ruin your bbl/chamber. Well, in 2000 rounds I've saved enough to buy a brand new bbl.

Where are you getting the ammo from? I really want to start reloading. But even reloading is expensive to get started..

Sportsmansguide.com is a great place to get ammo. Some of the best in the Hornady TAP. If you have a 5.56 chamber, get the Federal m193 ball with the Lakecity brass for plinking or all around decent but cheap ammo.
Wolf is crap. Avoid it like the plague.

Cool I'm glad I didn't buy the wolf. I bought a few boxes of the PMC 55gr to see if I like it, and to see how dirty it. I've been seeing a lot of people using the federal m193 ammo.

I am seeing Wolf for $17.99 a box. If you know of places that have it for $5 a box, by all means let us know.

Thats CRAZY. I can get boat tailed hollow points for that.

speaking of bthp

A few months ago somebody ran a special $240 for a case of wolf 65 gr boat tailed hollow pt. I grabbed 2 cases. Its certainly not going to be my primary self defense or shtf ammo, but it is better than 55gr fmj

To the OP: You're local gun shop is trying to gouge you.

I hate to refer somebody to TOS, but if you're looking for ammo, then this is a good place to start:

You will realize that the PMC has a funny smell when fired. My personal favorite for plinking and reloading is 55gr Privi XM193. Make sure you get a primer pocket tool to help chamfer the crimped primers. The best you can get I think is the Lake City 62 gr. ss109.

I'm curious as to which dept. store. The only department stores I can think of that carry ammunition around here are Wal-mart and K-Mart and they're usually out of anything good. AFAIK, they never stock XM193.

Surplus Ammo was just selling PMC at $364 per 1000 shipped. $7.28 per box to your door.

They are probably out but I would call to make sure.

Yeah it seems like the prices have been going up. I would love to buy th M193 ammo. But finding a place that is cheap enough, so I don't feel like I just got boned. Thats the big problem.

Todays boning is tomorrow's deal.

I remember feeling like I overpaid for a Colt when I paid $800 for it a few years back.

like i said it's good stuff. i've shot about 10,000 rds of it and seen well over 100,000 rds of it go down range, it's just dirtier than the american eagle we use to issue.
