It's East German 7.62x39mm reduced power training ammo. If I remember right, the bullet has a nylon core and is fairly light (around 62 grains).

They are 7.62x39,I beleive the bullet is a light weight training round.I had a few of them instock when I used to sell guns.

Would it be possible to get a clear shot of the headstamp?

Yup, those guys nailed it.

East German training rounds, plastic/nylon, corrosive.

Anybody know the date of manufature based on the head stamp?

Is this stuff worth anything? Worth shooting, worth holding onto,...?

According to my DIA ammunition guide East German ammunition is marked with a 04 or 05 factory code at the top and a two-digit year date at the bottom. It seems as if this ammo was produced in 1990.

I have some 7.92x33 Kurz ammo here in Iraq that was made in East Germany at factory 04 in 1961.

I had some of that back in the early 90's,I remember setting targets at our berm and saw one of these rounds that was in the dirt looked like it had styrofoam (SP?) in the core .it was fun to show less recoil but corrosive as hell clean your weapon after you shoot it .it did have that funky smell too when shot
