View Full Version : Strange stoppage on new rifle

I took my previously unfired AR to the range this weekend and had a unusual stoppage. I am hoping someone can help me diagnose this.

Parts: M&P lower, DTI carbine upper, new Magpul mag, stock carbine buffer, original springs, extractor, etc and < 30 rounds through it. Lots of lube/grease in all the approved places.

Symptom: The fired brass was almost completely back in the magazine with a nice notch in the mouth. The brass was slightly forward and angled upward enough to block the bolt from going back into battery. Unfortunately, I do not remember if the notch was the size of the gas tube or a locking lug. Neither of those look to be damaged in any way.

From reading other threads, I already plan on getting an H or H2 buffer next time I visit Grant. Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated.
