I am shopping for a ccw gun what is a good choice for reliability and quality. I was thinking maybe a glock 30 or 27.

HK45C, a Commander 1911 variant, Glock36/30. Would you be willing to expand your choices by a .40cal pistol or a revolver maybe?

I would place the S&W M&P product line high up on the criteria you listed.

Glock 27 is a .40 not a .45 ...

I have a HK45 full size and can say that it is NICE ... A tad too large for CCW ..
You could do alot worse than an HK45C ...

I typically try to go for the largest (physical) gun I can conceal easily. For many people that's going to be the Glock 19, 23 and 32. Those are compacts while the 27 and 30 are sub-compacts. I can't use a subcompact without finger extensions on the magazine and even then, I don't find them too comfortable. Just something to think about. Your mileage may vary. Rather than go for a smaller and less comfortable gun, I simply opted to dress a little different and that has allowed me to carry larger guns with minimal effort. Normally I carry a Glock 21SF or a full sized 1911. I've also been known to carry a Beretta 92FS and a Glock 23. (The latter is for days where I feel like wearing jeans and a plain old t-shirt.) My little Smith & Wesson J-Frame goes with me everywhere in my pocket regardless of what else I'm carrying.

I have carried for many years a Glock 36, Glock 30, Colt Officer, Colt/SA Gov., Colt/SA Commander in .45 ACP.

All are reliable, quality, do NOT print and are comfortable for LONG duty assignments etc.

My two favorite .45's for carry are a 1911 or the M&P 45. Just my opinion

Is there a particular reason why you are shopping for a .45 or .40 gun, such as being issued one by a PD or other LE organization?

If not, I would suggest looking at a 9mm.

What's the best .45 for carry is a loaded question, pun intended. It can really only be answered by you as you're the only one who can accurately determine your needs. As long as what you choose is reliable there are a lot of choices available for you to pick from. That being said, when I can, I carry a 5" 1911 in a kydex IWB holster and have no issues.

I sport a HK45C daily. Love it. I have a IWB holster and a jackass depending on what I'm wearing for the day.

You've got to decide if you want to go the 1911 route. If you decide to (and I think you won't regret it) the Dan Wesson Commander Classic Bobtail would be my choice.

I own a Kimber Pro Carry Stainless with night sights as my primary carry weapon. I'm not a rich man so I don't have multiple handguns. If I did come into money though, the DW would be high on my list for a reliable concealable full size pistol.

I carry a Comp-tac Infidel IWB holster for my hk45c

I vote for a Commander size 1911. S&W makes one with a Scandium frame (SW1911PD) that weighs 28 oz empty.

1911's a pretty flat and even the steel framed fullsize ones carry pretty well, for me anyway.:)

My absolute favorite carry gun is the custom Colt Commander pre 70's series that John Harrison Master Pistolsmith built for me. It's based on a LW Commander and resides inside my absolute favorite holster for it, the Milt Sparks VM2. The weapon is a reasonable size and weight, ample firepower, and has a nice flat profile which avoids unsightly printing.

BTW, using a dark barrel tip and light bushing gives the business end a look almost as intinidating as looking down the barrel of a M203. LOL

I'm not sure that one can say this as a general statement:

All are reliable, quality, do NOT print and are comfortable for LONG duty assignments etc.

I know guys who can't conceal a G26 without problems, and guys who can conceal an m1911 easily. THAT all depends on how the person dresses, what kind of concealment holster he/she is using, and where he/she carries.

As for questions about reliability when it comes to guns, I see reliability and simplicity to be interconnected. Guns running reliably is important, but KEEPING them running reliably is just AS important. The simpler the design, the easier it will be to diagnose and fix problems. Glocks have 17 moving parts and they are ALL easy to find online. It is pretty much the most simple design I know of. While much nicer ergonomically, as well as having parts which are also easy to find, the 1911 is nowhere NEAR as simple as the Glock.

In my opinion, a carry gun should be as simple and trouble-free as possible. Even if the ergos of the Glock don't fit everyone's hands, it is easier to learn to shoot the blocky plastic than it is to overcome the inherent complications in guns which are more picky.

Don't overlook Kahr arms, I'm picking up a Kahr P45 next week. They are the slimmest 45's out there, and they are very lightweight, one inch wide and 20oz w/ mag. Might kick back a little more though.

I have a Novak Custom Colt Combat Commander, a G21SF and a Kahr P45.

The Kahr is the most accurate of the bunch.

I find the recoil in the P45 less sharp than my P40. In general, I find the .45 rolls more than snaps.

JMHO.

I typically overlook Kahr Arms due to the price. I don't think they are worth it.
