This pistol is actually part of a composed pair of carry guns, both done in a Retro theme. The first gun was built on a new roll-mark Colt Series 80 Commander and originally pictured here (http://www.louderthanwords.us/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=6897)... and, although it was sent in at the same time as its slightly larger Commander sibling, the gun pictured here started off with a bit different path. This CCO, like many custom Colt CCOs before it, started as an Officers ACP... this one finished in bright stainless steel, which basically meant it had lots of over buffed and rolled over lines like only Colt can do. The factory cosmetics (or lack thereof) once again reaffirmed there really is nothing like polishing on a wheel.

Originally the owner had considered leaving this gun as an O-ACP but once the finished Commander was delivered to him it was decided that this Officers model needed a bit of enlargement. And giving full credit where credit is due, the owner posted a nice review that can be seen here (http://ezine.m1911.org/HeirloomPrecision_frame.htm). The owner, by the way, was once again a real joy to work with and was very open to the ideas I had for the guns as well as bringing a good bit of his own insight and experience to the table. I look forward to collaborating with him again.

Once it was decided that the pistol was to be a CCO I was off to find a slide... a bit easier said than done but once in hand the frame rails were welded and the frame was re-fit to the new slide. As with the Commander before it, the gun got a Kart barrel, EGW bushing, complete line straightening, lowered and flared ejection port, bordered slide, short trigger, and all the best internals that this time included the use of the Vickers Tactical Classic Commander hammer along with the tool steel sear and disconnect. Keeping with the Retro theme the slide was fit with a classic retro front sight with gold line insert to be used in conjunction with the Yost Retro rear sight. Once again our HP Retro beavertail was fit to the frame and pivots on a standard sized Colt thumb safety, my personal favorite ;) . The frame and mainspring housing were both hand checkered at 30lpi, the mainspring housing was treated to a slight round-butt modification, and last but certainly not least I managed to finagle ‘ol Theo into making a nice set of Ironwood stocks for the piece.

This was truly a fun project to do because it gave a chance to make a cool blend of classic and contemporary. Enjoy!

Your work never ceases to amaze, Mr. Burton. Once again you have created an excellent custom pistol. The customer who ordered that fine weapon should be thrilled. Simply outstanding.
